i just bought a 45/70 kodiak and was wondering what velosity and bullet weights do these rifles tend to like. so far i shot factory 300 grn nosler partion golds and the right barrel shot dead on but the left barrel kept 5" to the left the 420 grn cast bulets shot a little better closer to gether but im getting a little leading so i will back off and see if i can reduce the leading my first couple of shots with this bullet were great but after the 5th shot say the leading was starting to ruin my accuracy. i have some 500 grn bullets i would like to try at about 1350-1400 iwill see how these proform this week the 420s were loaded with 51grns of h4895 (im going to back this off)(leading) the 500 grainers i will be using speer load data for these as they are the rcbs 500 bps bullets(they can be also used in smokless guns quit well according to speer) thanks in advance for any loads help and information. 700 nitro. Steve I would suggest starting with trap door loads, and seeing where this guns regulates to. I have heard that these like marlin loads, with 400 grainers, but others here have far greater expereince with this rifle than I do. if you just hate this popgun, for you, please write me, and I'll send you the appropriate atf forms and shipping funds for this rifle. jeffe

700 nitro My Kodiak was regulated for the Federal 300 gr load. When I first got it I used Remington & Winchester factory ammo, but it did not group as i thought it should. I e-mailed Pesrisoli with the serial# and they told me what load it was regulated for. I had my Kodiak re-chambered for 458 rcbs and if I keep 350-400 gr bullets around 1900-2000 fps it shoots very well.
