The butt stock and recoil pad. Perhaps a solid red rubber pad without a white spacer might be better oneday, but even though it "feels" long, it comes naturally to the point of aim.

I see there is one more man who has found that real rifles have more than one barrel! [Big Grin]

Very good choice in chambering, as well! Now all you need is a Cape Buffalo in front of it! [Wink]

Have you worked up some good loads yet? Have you tried any of the 350 Hornady's. Since you are in Australia you might be able to get the 350 Woodleigh's cheaper than the Hornadys. In any case I am curious to see if the 350's will "regulate" in your rifle with the same charge that regulates the 480 to 500grain bullets.

Thanks for your kind comments.

NE 450 No2

Have had some hold ups. Needed to get a new press to accomodate the long No. 2.

Don't worry, you'll be the first to know. [Smile]

NitroX, thanks for sharing the photos, looks like a very nice gun, and a very practical chambering too. There's just something about Jeffery rifles...

I know exactly how you feel about altering the LOP. Jeffery doubles handle better than most, and if they fit you well, you will pull off some amazing shots in the hunting field. Better get it up to the Northern Territory for a 'road-test'.

My own Jeffery is a BLE in .450/.400 3-inch with the naive 'Maharajah' engraving, and its easily my firm favourite for hunting buffs'n'boars.

Great story. There are few more things more enjoyable than hunting with a double.

NitroX
I "had" to get the big RCBS press after I got my No2. It works very good, plenty of "room" for the No2's [450 or 475] You can also screw out the "bushing" that holds regular loading dies and screw 50 BMG dies directly into the press.

Lovely ... simply lovely ;>Wink

I like the photographic effects too.

You might try getting a sharp focus on the muzzle and a blur on the face ... when printed large such photos have a tendency to "follow you" as you view them from around a room. Can be great for making some folks just a little nervous ;>Wink

That's identical to My 450#2 Jeffery. It looks like it has not been messed with at all! I have found that 90 grs of Rl-15 with a fed 215 primer, 4.0 grs of Dacron filler and a 480 gr Woodleigh provides Perfect regulation at 50 yrds! 4 bullets will print one big hole with the lefts on the left and the rights on the right. You obviously have good taste!-Rob

Ended up getting a press locally. Unfortunately at a much much higher price than you were talking about. Will drop you an email.

But - oops - the dies I was supplied with the rifle turned out to be the wrong set - the label on the box was a little vague. So they are on their way back to the US and new ones to be returned. Will be a while until it tastes some gunsmoke.

This "Indian Gentleman" will need sit out the pig hunt in a few days and wait maybe for something more worthy next year (or perhaps later in the year [Smile] ).

Nitro,
A distinguished gentleman indeed!, and excellent choice on caliber.
Please post results on loading, and as 450#2 said especially if the 350's regulate with same charge as the 480's.
I am anxious to try those in my rifle as soon as I can shoot again,
Regards
Ron

NitroX,

I know what it is like to have a new toy and not be able to play with it. Borrow a friend's 460 Weatherby dies, and you may be able to seat bullets and neck size to be able to try your rifle out (you will probably only be able to screw the dies a couple of threads into the press, and I am not positive it will work, but it might let you do a little playing before your proper dies get there). Measure the top of your press to see if it is more than 0.7 inches deep to the top of the shell holder to see if you have enough room for the dies to thread into your press. If so, you may be in luck [Big Grin] .

Jim

Things in Darwin are looking good, heading into another long hunting season. Been having a little fun already with the new toy:

NitroX:
I agree with mbogo375: with these low-pressure nitro expresses in a tight gun you should only need to neck-size for the first few shots, especially for load development work (non-dangerous targets!). I know I'd find a way to get some neck tension, perhaps even .45 Colt or .455 Webley pistol dies! Jeffery doubles simply scream out to be shot!!

Jim & Marrakai

Foolishly I did not neck re-size the cases before the dies were sent off. I re-sized some - neck only which was quite easy to do - but realised that if the cases was full length re-sized something was very wrong.

Arranged with the seller to have a look at the dies and he arranged to get a new set.

Anyway I was out of time before this hunt, but after I get back the poor Jeffrey will be crying I think.

The press is no longer a problem - in fact I have the choice of two - a Lyman turrent press where bullets can be seated if the dies are unscrewed each time - and a RCBS .50 BMG press which is quite long enough [Wink]

Have an initial load to try which has been confirmed by a second source too.

Yes it is going to be a hard wait. [Frown]

PS Marrakai - I really think I need to take the Jeffrey for a walk up your way next year.

My lust factor is running wild on that Jefferys..

When I get back this year from Tanzania,I am going to sell my 450-400 and get me a 450 no. 2 or a 450-31/4" or something different and expand my knowledge..I'm becoming bored with the 450-400 they work so boringly well on everything I shoot with them...
