I'm putting a 378 Wby together and want to run the 350gr SMK's out of it. It has a 28" Shilen barrel on a CZ 550 Mag action. Just something to play with out to 500 yds and maybe torment the Texas hog population with. I'm looking for a starting load for the 350 Sierra Match King. I'm thinking starting loads for the 416 Wby 350's will be OK. Does anybody have any help on this?

Forum member POP may be able to help you. He is on his tenth .378 Wby. and shoots long range a lot.

for the 350 Matchking...... with 65K psi pressures.

If you just want to shoot hogs to 500 yards, this thing is way overkill. Which I applaud. But seriously, with the right setup you're talking hogs to 1500 yards.

Thanks POP for the wealth info. As far as choosing this set up for 500 yd work, I ran across all the components to build this gun for super cheap. I have all the machine tools to make it happen so why not. And, I understand you having that many 378's.This will be my second one. Having brass and dies already were another reason for this one.

I am starting to load the same bullet in an H&H.
I contacted Sierra and they said they do not have data yet and if I came up with anything to send them what I got.
I am loading really long out to just off the lands. At 4.040" they do not fit in the mag and are single loaded.

I started with H4350, 62 grains working up to 70. I work for a gunsmith and I was firing into the bullet trap to work up. At 70 it looked like it could go a little higher, looking at primer flattening and that matches your data.

I am going to shoot at 100 for group and try a grain or two either way and see if it changes for the better.
Seating back to fit in the mag really makes a difference in powder capacity.

Pop , after how many firings should you anneal 378 brass ? i had some old rounds, i got with rifle, i bought years ago] and nearly all the necks split and some exited the barrel !how many firings would you get on average from brass ?
