Today I came across a .500 A-square at a gun show. The dealer knew absolutely nothing about the gun and had no idea about what he had. Needless to say the price was cheap. There were no markings on the barrel and action other than the caliber, that I could see. I can only "assume" this is a Hannibal .500 A-square having never seen one before. Any idea ballpark price for a gun of this type in good shape.

It really depends on who built the gun: A-Square, a known gun builder, or an unknown gunsmith.

What sort of action did it have? What was the stock like?

pictures would be good...

we could at least begin to ID the action and perhaps narrow the maker down...

but, in all honesty, if it FEEDS the maker doesn't matter, in your case... it does for those wanting one that feeds as well.

did you pick it up?

I am not good at identifying actions, I have very limited experience with custom guns. I did not buy the gun because I do not know enough about it. However, I am calling the dealer back about a .375 that I am interested in. If there is something to this gun I can go and get both. The action as best I can tell is a sporterized military action. I have heard that these were sometimes built on enfield actions. There is an emblem on the left side of the reciever that is partially obscured by the stock. It was difficult to make out. I know I am giving very limited information about the rifle. I have no pictures. I was shocked to find a rifle in this caliber at a local gun show.

300,
yep.. and should be...

if you happen to have the dealer's contact info, I'll call him and ask for pics... Or, if you go in for the 375, snap a couple... if it's an A2 it's worth having..

if it's not, well, then, it's GOT to feed or it's a paperweight
