Thanks for thinking of me jorge, I'm glad my Remington 700's don't have any of those terrible qualities you mentioned.Wink
And, thanks to GeorgeS for explaining things.
I wondered why anyone would suggest using 'less gun' when the general consensus seems to be that there isn't such thing as 'too much gun'.Cool

Prarie boy, I've recently been afflicted and convicted with 'hoof-in-mouth disease' here on the Forum, so I'm getting my 'due' from some good folks. beer

As some of the guys said, they'd be able to keep the weight of a .375 equal to that of the .338.
Plus, it can be made to shoot flat over distance.

I understand why you wish to get a matching rifle for your collection. Familiarity with the guns and how they work is a good thing, especially if they work the same way.

You may not need to get the SAKO hot-rodded by a gunsmith to make it work well.

As for the DM feature, my 700/.338 had that, and I could feed it from the top OR remove the mag and load it that way.
It was 'OK', but I got rid of it in favor of the .375 Ultra with a floorplate. The trade-off seemed to be worth it for caliber/power.

I now have 'The .375' in a rifle I'm familiar and comfortable with.
Even though it does not meet the 'most favored' status around here, I like it.

I hope you get what you like. Good Luck and Have Fun.

Prairie Boy

A 7MM and a 375 in the exact same rifle make a lot of sence and I'm not a real staunch CRF guy either but I have the same concern as others over the DM. I have a good friend that had a 300WM Sako rebarrelled to 375 Weatherby and the recoil blew the mag out each time he fired it. The gun you are looking at may not be so afflicted but it would give me pause. Of course you could use the old trick of taping the mag in just in case. A piece of duct tape will actually last for years. This only works if the mag can be loaded from the top while in the gun, of course.

I have had identical Sako Hunter rifles in 7mm Rem Mag and 375 H&H for almost twenty years. This year I picked up another 375 H&H that had been rechambered to 375 Weatherby (thank you BIG SAM!). So far no problems with the recoil. It is nice having essentially identical trajectories. I did rebed the 375 Weatherby with "steel bed" from Brownells, and add a touch of weight to the forearm and stock.

One nice thing is that After zeroing scopes for each rifle, I switched the scopes to the other rifle and figured out he click differences (it wasn't very much). Now, I have a piece of paper taped to the underside of each scope that tells me what click changes to make if I need to put that scope on the other rifle. The new Sako scope mounts with the plastic inserts are totally bombproof and don't change POI.

Hasta la bamba.

kman,

that's good to know about the 75 mags and it would address one of my concerns. My TRG-S mags in 25-06 and 338 Lapua will not top load through the action. The bottom rounds are staggered but the top round is a straight line affair held in place by the long feed lips of the mag. You need to feed rounds in from the front of the mag, not just pushing them down as in the AR mags. I humbly acknowledge my lack of the facts regarding some DMs Red Face I stand firm on my preference of a floorplate over the DMs on a big game/DG rifle however Big Grin BUT, if you like them and they work for you GREAT!

My tikka mag is like you describe. You feed them in from the front kinda like a pistol magazine. That one sure feeds nice though but can't be top loaded.

Cheers
