416 Howell
416 Howell
I just got in a 416 Howell built by Paul Marguart on an FN action, with stainless metalwork and synthetic stock, express sights, and QD Talley scopemounts. Unlike most of Howell's wildcats built on 30-06 cases, this one is based on the 404 Jeffery. I received cases, forming dies, reloading dies, and a ton of 416 bullets with the rifle. Does anyone here load for the 416 Howell? I'm thinking of using 300 or 350gr bullets for Alaskan hunts.

BigFiveJackHi Jon,
Congratulations! Are you going to try the CEB Non Cons
that Michael458 has been getting such good results from?
Are we gonna see pictures and get some vital statistics
on this new rifle? May we ask why you chose this 416 over
the Ruger, Rigby, AccRel, B&M and so on? (Not being critical
at all, just asking

) May it serve you very well!

jeffeossogreat round... which, only enough, i didn't know existed until after i fired my 416 AccRel .... boomy transferred contact info, and ken and i talked ... his is excellent, and designed before the rums really made it.. try resizing a 375 rum, with your expander removed, and see if the base will resize.
ken has lots of data on this.. you can get a 400gr over 2400 ... ask boomy for his email, and start from there...
now, all that being said, high praise for the 416 howell and accrel ... the 416 ruger obviates them both

Jack, I'm always game to try something new, and a custom FN-based Mauser in an African caliber for $1,450 with $1,500 worth of forming, sizing, and reloading dies, cases, bullets, etc was hard to pass up. Even came with a finish-matched receiver sight as well as the express sights and QD Talleys. Something new to play with!

No, I didn't. Did he sell it? Wayne had it on his website...thought it was still out there. I know he was negotiating with someone on AR here.

BigFiveJackJon,
I mistook you at first; I thought you ORDERED
the rifle in this caliber as opposed to finding
one that was built already! A cool find in deed!

Jack, I'll wait until Michael gets back to load up on some 416s for this one. I wanted a lighter bullet than the usual 400gr, so his monometals will be perfect.
