HI, I am alittle surprised that no one here has used any Kodiak Bullets as I think they are very good bullets,Kev

Kev, I think that Andy tested Kodiaks in his soft nose bullet expansion tests (on 5 gal. jugs full of water lined up). As I recall, the Kodiaks did well in this particular test.

Pierre van Tonder, my partner in a Safari Company and the PH for that company used them in his 500 Jefferys this year and shot a number of dead buffalo and a few live ones with it at 2100 FPS and they failed to expand at all, you could have reloaded them....That is a down load but even so they should have expanded at that velocity.

Ray, What bullet weight? You know these bovines are proving to NOT be too aweful tough on bullets. Your PH is shooting them (cape buffalo) with soft points and the soft points don't expand! Alf is shooting (North American Bison) with soft point Rhino bullets and the soft point Rhino bullets don't expand! Then we read ALL about he bullet failures on whitetails!!! It seems that whitetail deer are a bullets worse nightmare! I have found that heavy bone is the bestest bullet expander, particularly when coupled with a fair amount of velocity and bullet mass. Haven't seen a soft point yet that wouldn't expand when it had to go through some heavy bone. ASS_CLOWN

I loaded some in my 470 double and got high pressure signs and poor accuracy. Still have some if anyone else wants to try!

I've had great luck using their older heavy jacket 405 gr FP in a converted Browning 1886 45-90. I was able to get a true 2150 fps at the muzzle, great penetration and expansion on Moose and Bear... Im not certain if they still make that weight with the heavy jacket, but if they do, I wouldn't hesitate to use that combination on game up to the size of Large Moose, Coastal Browns or Cape Buff.

Kev and 500 grains, I tested the 450 grain and 500 grain Kodiak .458's at 2550 fps and 2,400 fps. They held up great, and were one of top picks in 22 premium 458's I tested as 500 grains explained. They have more expansion than a Swift or NF but seem as reliable. They were not the most accurate by any means but were good enough for off hand shooting a big bore! Saeed will be posting my test of these bullets in his on line magazine when ever he gets a chance to post it with the new web design. I did not test them at low velocity and am surprised they did not open up in 50 caliber. They use a 95-5 jacket with 5 degree taper according to factory so it is thinner at ogive and meplat than heel. Should have worked. Id just ask them about it. Very accessible people. The 450 grain will shoot through both shoulders of a 9 foot brown bear from 458 winchester Ive been told and I do believe it. The Kodiak FMJ FN expanded to 60 caliber and was not intended for 450 Dakota velocities! Andy

couldn't get them to shoot in my 375. That rifle shoots most bullets well but the 270 Kodiaks shot patterns not groups.

Kev, I loaded up some 350 grainers in 416 Rem Mag for a Spring 2003 Brown Bear hunt on Afognak Island, AK. As I remember I got aroung 2-2 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Was unsuccessful on the hunt, so no report on effectiveness on game.
