Still gathering parts for the 416 Rem. I am putting a quarter rib on. I am looking for a rear sight. I appreciate the looks of the classic express sight however I am not sure I want to fart with it. What adjustable rear sight looks classic and classy enough? I am assuming I will need one with a dove tail? It needs to be .5" wide in order to fit the rib.

Thanks for your time.

For me a single standing express, zeroed at 50yds, works fine as a back up sight out to 100yds (about as far as one should shoot w/ open sights). On a 1/4 rib, doesn't get any better. banana NECG is a good place to look: http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/index.html?Peep%20sight.htm%7Emaindeal

Ever seen the rear sight Jim Wisener makes for Wbee? It is an island-style with a V-notch and a wheel laid on it's side which moves it for elevation. Graduated marks on the island you can mark. Hard to explain, go to Wbee's site and look at them. Goes great with his barrel band front. He was making a run about six weeks ago, and I piggybacked on for one extra set, along with an extended floor plate for my CZ550 Magnum 416.

I also like the single standing bar in a quarter rib.

Filed in for your favorite load to shoot 1" high at 50yds. Further adjustment made by drifting the bar or changing height of the front bead.

ElCab,

The ERA/Recknagel/NECG range of sights includes two adjustable versions.

http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/

Update: I just checked and NECG shows the rear sights only w/ the base included. You may want to call them as I thought the Recknagel catalogue offered just the standing blade alone.

Rich, Could you please give me the web address to that site. I couldn't find it. Sounds like something to look at for sure. Thanks,

If the sight that Idaho is talking about is the one I think it is...it is a close copy of the sight that Wincheste put on their pre-64 M70 African model. I saw one that Jim made, very, very nice!

Agreed. This is the best method, IMHO. Adjustables aren't needed for big bores. Besides, every adjustable I've ever seen looks like a contraption, more or less.

NECG/Recknagel offer a good standing blade rear, or a standing blade with one folder, which I also like.

,,,,,,I like the one Idaho is talking about ..The ones with the little screws and changeable blades I think are an acquired taste that I haven,t acquired yet..I feel Fixed Express sights make a person fit the rifle to themselves much more than adjustables do..By changeing the fore sight height , the elevation can be grossly adjusted pretty well , then mayby a little fileing...With the 416,s I would sight it for 100 yrds.....If the stock is adjusted so you comfortably and easily see { all the bead , the whole bead , and nothing but the bead }you will be able to shoot that rifle well and it won,t Wack your cheek bone when shooting with the sights......A big reason people don,t practice with iron sights.... I would like to try the see thru express rear thet I saw on a Kreigoff double.....

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....
