I was looking at some way to take advantage of the QD Tally 30mm rings that came with one of my CZ550 rifles. I found a low cost option in the Bushnell Multi-Reticle electronic red/green dot/crosshair, zero power, shot gun & pistol scope.

Question is how would this stand up on something like a 458Lott or 505Gibbs? At $100 price, it need not last a life time. A 1000 rounds? 250? Less? Opinions?

Zero parallax, infinite eye relief. I am not sure about the fit. I measure 5 1/4 inches needed with the rings mounted on the rifle. Catalog states 5 1/2 inches, allowing for the rubber around the eye piece, seems like it should just work with 0 inch to spare?

Is than an better alternative?

Thanks jro,

This is a bummer. We had an AR member calculate the recoil on his turkey shotgun just equal the typical 458win mag. I would have hoped for better than 1 shot!

Take a look at Ultra-dot. They carry a lifetime warranty and retail for about $140.00, I have one on a Ruger superblackhawk for many years and it has never given me any trouble. I use full power loads only.

stubert, thanks, I see the ultra-dot website specs show a length of 5.1 inch, a tad short for the cz550. Tube extension,... wonder what that is?

I am on the phone, on hold, waiting to talk with Bushnell. Some online catalogs state 5.5 inch length. I just looked at one, actual measured length under 5 inch.

My .458 had a lynx red dot on with tube extension. I had to put 4 mounts on to keep the scope on the CZ 550.The recoil of the 458 was to much for only 2 mounts.

OK, I think I know a bit more. I spoke with Bushnell and they endurance test the red/green 4 dot scopes with 12 gauge slugs and 375H&H. So, it should take a lot more than one shot from a 416 or 458. But, they did not mention any extensions. Their new multi dot is too short for the cz550.

Mafunyane , extensions! I also see that on the Ultradot website. I only have two rings, but might be able to make a spacer to slip over the 30mm scope tube so it cannot move back under recoil or drill a hole in an extension tube and rig up some kind of stop.

Bottom line, it sounds like these scope will handle the recoil if they can be mounted properly.

Here is another option, aimpoint big game rifle red dot scope (yea, big game == more dollars)

Hello fourbore
Here is pick of my red dot with extension and without.

And yes they are strong scopes that will stand up to severe recoil.
