Guys,

Any field performance data on the 350 grain Speer MagTip in .416 caliber.

Only data we have so far is recoveries from the backstop ... do not appear to be seeing core separations. Do seem to be seeing pretty high weight retentions.

Would like data on light to medium game. Not sure I believe that Barnes Xs in this caliber will open up on deer ;>Wink

Thanks,

mike

I have used the 350 Speer on a black bear and a moose in a 416 Rem. Neither bullet was recovered but the wound channel and exit whole is impressive.I had been using the 300 gr X prior to the Speer bullet coming out. It performed similar (large exit whole and wound channel). The Speer bullet shoots as well and is less than 1/2 the price so that is what I shoot the most of now.

I have used this bullet in my 416 rem mag to take one moose and one mule deer.

Deer was shot at 70 yards. Thought he was broadside, but I guess he was quartering towards a bit, as I just got back half of left lung, smashed the liver, through some stomach, and exited the rear of the right rib cage. He humped up and bounded 10 yards then dropped. Very impressive results considering the shot placement.

Moose was shot at 130 yards. Slight quartering away shot, bullet entered behind left shoulder, hit a rib, through both lungs, then smashed the right scapula, then exited. Bull trotted 15 wobbly steps then flopped.

They are a great bullet. Seem to open up on light game like deer, but hold up well on moose's shoulder blades. Mag Tips I've recovered in bullet tests usually retain 80%+ of their weights.

Best .416 bullet for the money in my opinion. [Smile]
