Alright Max, now you are purposely pissing in the Buffalo Trace bottle.

If you cannot handle Award Winning Buffalo Trace, better just forget Ratzeputz.

The licorice flavored Killepitsch with 90 different fruits and nuts in it may be right up your alley. thumb

Right up my alley!?!?! Fruitth and Nuth! Now lithen fellerth...oops. Eeker

OK, OK, I'll drink the buffalo trace, but will mix it with something. Frowner (Was going to bring it along to the Dallas Safari Club show next January.) May have to wash it down with a 17yr old McKenna's single barrel bourbon, though. thumb
I did go to a Greek restaurant tonight and had a couple of Ouzos with dinner just to help the night along.

Have had arak and other "potables" that peeled paint in various countries. There was one in Taiwan that looked and tasted like fuel oil.

Macifej,
Since you are so interested, here is how your 3 bullets shot for 3-shot groups at 100 yards, all loads with 96.0 grains of H4350, and all velocities over 2700 fps and under 2800 fps, and all points of impact within +/- 1" on windage and +/- 5/8" on elevation spread at 100 yards, combined for the Brass Trinity of S&H. It was a windy day and it took me 1.5 hour to shoot 36 shots (waiting for lulls in the wind) before the range closed and they ran me off. It was 41 degrees F when I started, and 39 degrees F when I left.

The S&H bullet accuracy can stand comparison to any maker, even GSC. Just like Buffalo Trace can stand comparison to any liquor, even if Max can't hack it. thumb

Harruump! It is obvious that shoulder stabilization is effective only in the dense media, and in air gyro-stabilization must resist the deflecting moments that are magnified by wider nose meplat ...variations in atmospheric pressure and temperature have deflecting effects directly proportional to meplat diameter. Since the US and Canadian dollars are about the same now ... this should be a favorable time to take up the imbibing of Buffalo Trace, just like Canuck and his Pop, when they are home on the range. I recommend it highly. thumb

Holy Crap!!!

It's the 705gr .510 Omaha Special left in the tumbler too long!

That AAA pill I turned you on to 6 years ago must have really made an impression. When I saw the pic, I had to take a double look.

They come in other calibers? Ok, now I'm jealous. I might have to get a .395" something just to shoot them. clap

If you shoot the 325gr anything like you shoot the 705's, be sure to post your .1??" groups for all to see beer

BMJ,
The bullets shoot great, and yes, you need a .395 to shoot that well. However, the use of Buffalo Trace as an accuracy aid is to be frowned upon.

RIP
Since I couldn't sleep, I got up and fixed some Buffalo Trace with Coke as a sleep-aid (note post time). It ain't bad that way, just prefer others when using just ice.
By the way, GREAT SHOOTING. I think this .395 has some magic in it. Once I get my own digital camera and learn to post photos, I'll post the targets I got with Macifej's bullets and the .395 Max.

I like it with just ice, or maybe with a splash of water too depending on how much flavor I feel like. Smiler

366T...you'll have to like bourbon to enjoy it. Its not nearly as mellow as Irish Whiskey.

Seems to be popular in Canada for some reason. Always seems to be a large supply at the Liquor Stores (around here and in the Peace Country anyway).

Cheers,
Canuck

ps: Great shootin' RIP!! thumb

Thanks all!
McGowen accuracy barrels
S&H accuracy bullets
Redding accuracy dies

One of the GSC bullets gave 0.443" for 3-shots group at 100 yards, but overall the S&H bullets were more accurate. Maybe just the luck of the powder charge and the COL for the first outing with good dies.

Matt,
Yes, SHarlow Rippers are from S&H (Macifej).
Thanks for introducing me to the AAA Harlow.

I don't have enough GSC bullets to give it a competitive run right now, but am hoping Gerard and Gina will be sending some out to Max and me soon!

I did not have time to do the cast bullet testing but will be chronographing the .396/410-grain LBT LFN GC in the .395 Tatanka with the following charges of H50BMG: 96, 97, and 98 grains. Goal is 2150 fps and some semblance of accuracy. thumb

The Ruger No.1 in 400/.395NE will have the same goal of 2150 fps for 410-grainer with H4895 or such, in a longish barrel and modest pressures.

I still have room for more powder in the .395 Tatanka. The only load so far that did not have powder shake from air space was the S&H FN seated deep, as shown above.

Well I can't take credit for RIP's top notch shooting. I have to believe it's the Gumbo from scratch and Prussian Booze that enables my critical thinking.

Say Doc! Why shorten that McRepeater action when I could just make some really long projos? Maybe a 1500 grain .666 DaRippa SHarkee style. I should have the dies in a day or so.

holycow
.666 SHark FN
.666 SHark Ripper
.666 SHark Velopex

All with SHark-gills for the "death crimp ease" and slick engagement of rifling.

Putting gills on the Harlow copy could be the ultimate improvement of the bore-riding-nosed projo. 'Twould be a smooth transition into rifling as the nose slips right into the land diameter, followed by the sloping SHark-gill bands easing into the groove diameter, all over the course of about 1 microsecond. That might get to the "point-ones." thumb

O.K. on the full length BMG action but don't you think you ought to keep the weight down closer to 1000 grains? Big Grin

I'm all over it Doc!!

The 666 SHarkee FN is done.

Next I'll do the DaRippa SHarkee.

I have a hydraulic damper here that should do quite nicely. With the Dole Pineapple sized brake and 20 lbs of weight the thing should recoil like a spitball launchin' Slurpee Straw!!

1100 Grain FN @ 2400 FPS..should be about right.

Careful Doc! Incorrect mixing procedure could cause spontaneous ignition.

That load is exactly what I was thinking. No dies yet but should be any day. Does this thing need to be a repeater or would a single shot bolt action work as a "Stopping Rifle"?? hillbilly

Can't imagine a follow up shot would be necessary eh? Don't like that big rattling clunky mag box hanging out of the bottom. Besides - chances are slim to none that the BATFE will sign off on a repeater with detachable mag over 60 caliber.

More chronographing this weekend: cast lead 410-grain Gas-checked in the .395 Tatanka with 96, 97, and 98 grains of H50BMG for starters.

Fire forming the ".398 Lapua Magnum" also ... and awaiting more Redding custom dies ... ho hum ... thumb

Carry on RIP!!

The 666 dies are orbiting my neighborhood in FedX purgatory for the last couple days!! No fault of the die manufacturer.

Did I mention that FedX sucks?!?!? Did I mention that they always screw up with utter reliability? Did I mention that I never have any problems with DHL? Did I mention that I'd rather ship USPS than FedX? Did I mention that my USPS packages to rural Afghanistan are quicker than my FedX package within the USA?

Did I mention that FedX sucks??

Maybe "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" instead of to California?

The S&H Brass Trio of .395 bullets continues to impress. Seating the FN as deep as possible and adding one grain of powder seems to have gotten the speed up considerably. All three bullets of different weights and lengths shoot very close to same POI with the same powder charge and current COL's. This is only a 50 yard test over the chronograph that I squeezed in as it was clouding up and just before the rain started. Velocities are five shot averages, and the group shown was just one shot with each of the 3 different bullets at 50 yards, Norma brass, GM215M primer, 96.0 grains of H4350.
Good bullets and a good McGowen barrel (GSC profile, heavy) and good gunsmithing by Kevin Jenkins, and good dies by Redding:

2-shot velocity check with the LBT LFN 410-grain, gas checked, .396-caliber cast boolit, no lube, same rifle and scope setting as above group, .395 Tatanka. It is a start:
