Was just over on the Rugerforum and there are a couple of posts about Ruger possibly discontinuing the RSM....just a rumor from the Ruger forum....not trying to start a panic or rumor here, just thought I would pass on what I read.

Is it due to the quality issue, they can't compete with the CZ's

.....Lots of rifles being made in lots of big calibers now .. The 375 Ruger is what will do it in ...essespecially if they make it in 416 Ruger ...The only need I have for a RSM is to make into a 475 A&M....My gunsmith won,t change the gears in his lathe to cut the metric threads.....Thats O.K.

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Say what?? Quality issues? I have both CZ's and the Ruger RSM. I'd say, ON AVERAGE, that both makes have their goods and bads. I don't think Ruger would discontinue the RSM over quality issues.....the fact that they may soon have a 416 Ruger to go with the 375 Ruger...yes.
I'm very happy with my RSM in 375...a bit heavy...but I like it.

I think the Ruger RSM is the most awesome Dangerous Game rifle made now.I guess I will have to get one.Its as classy as it gets.I have had friends split the 458 lott stocks or they held together.I wanted to convert the 375 in it to 416 rem mag.Its way better than the winchesters that were last made.I better get ahold of one quick before they go up.I have seen used 375s in it for as low as $750.They will dump the last ones if they are quit making them.

PLEASE REMEMBER...this discussion is based on ONE POST on the Ruger Forum...I have NO IDEA if it is true or false....I just thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone else can offer any other information. I personally don't think they would discontinue it, as they seem to sell every one of them they make.

If Ruger discontinues the Safari model, then it will be because its cost prohibitive..The integral barrels with quarter rib are very expensive to make..Don't believe that just check with a custom gun builder as to what it costs in a custom rifle...barrel band front sights, barrel band swivels, M-70 type safety, nice wood, good price value, what more could you ask for.

The Safari models is the finest factory production rifle to be produced in years..Anyone that can't see that is just not very tuned in IMO....

let me just say; Ruger is going to surprise a lot of folks in 2008 with additional chamberings in their big gun.
There might be a slightly new version: think slightly scaled up Hawkeye with a magazine box about 4 1/8" ID and a slight belly...just deep enough to hold three cartridges the size of a 505 Gibbs. This is, of course, pure conjecture on my part you know.

Ruger versus CZ big bore rifle out of the box quality?

You can't be serious...

Rugers rifles are already sold before they're even made...

In order to be a Ruger distributor you have to contract to by so many rifles...

The rumors of Ruger discontinuing the RSM have been floating around for awhile. My guess is that they'll cheapen the rifle by removing the quarter rib & barrel bands, and then start using sub-par wood.

Typical bean counter decision...

Ray, I agree with you completely . . . the RSM is the finest production dangerous game rifle available today. I have heard the rumor, however, that it is to be discontinued. I hope this is just a rumor. Perhaps someone on this list that knows someone at Ruger can get something definitive for us. Best regards, Brad Starcevich

I am with Ray on this as well. I love my Lott
in the RSM. Would not sell it and get a CZ. NO WAY.

I would not trade my RSM for a CZ in a million years. The only way the Hawkeye could replace the RSM is if it had better wood, a bigger action with bigger chamberings, maybe a 1/4 rib... Just like the RSM. If the RSM came out in 505 and some other larger chambers then that would stir up interest and sales. If sales are low, which I doubt. Nasty rumor, probably started by a weatherby owner!

GarBy,

no, but I have this friend at Ruger named Ken Jorgenson in marketing. Here's a tease for you: read back to the early posts on my 550 Gibbs Magnum and see who made me a set of reloading dies at no charge...then follow the bread crumbs, Hoss.

Hey guys,
I really don't think there was a quality control issue I was just trying to get some interest in this thread. I have a friend with a RSM and it truly is a unbelievable rifle, awesome wood (almost as good as weatherby wood) and a out of the box working rifle without any feeding problems. If they build a RSM in a 505 gibbs, "she who must be obeyed" is going to be really mad at me, lol.

I love my RSMs in .416 Rigby and Lott. I can see the new Hawkeye and Alaskan eating into the 375 market. The RSM rifle, as good as it is, is fairly portly for a 375 round...in fact I go to a M70 in this cartridge for the "trimness" if not the weight.

For bigger bores (416 and above) I don't see the weight as an issue.

My RSMs have good to great wood and the nice quarterib as standard. I hope Ruger doesn't discontinue the RSM line. If they add a .505 or .550 to the line I will be a customer for sure!

John
