Hello All,

Well, I found another SLEEPER - a Montanna Rifle Company model 1999 in 416 Hoffman cal.

This one was at a Cabelas right here in Wisconsin. I'd been watching it for over a year, and the price has been slowly coming down. I finally made an offer (for a little more than the retail value of the scope that came with it) ........... and they accepted my offer.

What a bargain, and what a wonderful rifle! This is my first Montana Rifle Company rifle, and my first 416 Hoffman. (although I have a Winchester Model 70 African Express in 416 Rem Mag, a nearly identical cartridge) I can actually shoot 416 Rem Mag ammo in this 416 Hoffman, but not visa-versa.

I contacted Montana Rifle Company and the verified a 2013 build date, and perhaps the "only" 416 Hoffman chambering.

Rifle weighs 8 lbs 5 oz - 9 lbs 6 oz w/ scope - "24" Bbl - (w/ adj sights) - 13-3/4" LOP - Decelerator Recoil Pad
Scope is a 1-6x24mm Leupold VX-6 w/ illuminated "Circle-Fire-Dot" reticle w/ Leupold QD Lever Rings & Bases

The rifle shot equally well with the scope, but I really surprised myself with the irons.

Comments are welcome.

Great rifle and if it came with that VX6 1-6 then you really scored! I own the very first one that they chambered in .505 Gibbs and it is a shooter.

Thor strikes again!
George Hoffman would be pleased to PH with that one, I am sure.
George helped bring the .416 back to life.
Of that I am sure too.

Nice looking rifle. Cool

If you keep at it sometimes Cabelas can have some good deals. I've been pestering them for some time on a "custom" .458WM that was way over priced for what it was but it's slowly coming down. If they will finally accept my offer it will be not a great deal but more in line with its true value.

Looks like you did well on a unique rifle.

Hello Cougarz,

Thanks for the reply.

If the price is reduced to where it is listed as $xxx.66 then you know that Corporate wants it gone. The ".66" is the key. At that point they are ready to accept offers because they want it gone.

Hello steyr,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I've been shooting some of my extra Factory 416 Rem ammo and it shoots it perfectly.

This was my favorite 416 rifle, right up until I found the A-Square a week later.
