I'm reloading for the .458 Lott with 480 grain Woodleigh RN SP. My reloading manuals only list for 400/500/600 grain boolets. So far I have loaded the 480s with the recommended IMR 4064 powder charge of between 74.0 and 78.0 in the 500 grain bullet data. Using 77.0 grains for a starter charge I believe is safe enough but..... Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

This will probably get me literiy slapped silly but ... I would tumble moly coat them and start with 75.gr,.,.... Do you have a chronograph.??.. ,,.,., Even with book loads I don,t just wind on er........I have had too many max loads really be max loads... Every one seems to be very happy with the Lott at a little better than 458 Win velocity but with greater reliability in the long term iginition area............... Are you going to use it to get another tail ??gb

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Gumboot 458, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have a chronograph. Sounds reasonable to increase the load a wee bit more than the 458 Win Mag. If my ship comes in I plan on using it to acquire another tail for sure. And, sooner the better! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Mike

There's plenty of load data on here for 500 gr. bullets. Do a search.

Also, there's data in the Barnes manual, and probably some others by now.

I don't have my reloading data with me, so I'm reluctant to give you a max load from memory. But H-4895 works well. Again, do a search.

ForeTails,

The "standard load" for the Lott is 83 grs. IMR4320 under a 500 grain bullet lit up with a Fed 215 primer.

Roi

P.S. I REALLY like Hornady brass for this caliber.
