Info for reference to my question: A magazine article in a Guns&Ammo/1994 special edition, called 'RIFLES and Cartridges for Big Game' had an article by Joe Coogan about The Ultimate .375 , pp.16. The rifle was/is a BRNO ZKK 602 and modified/rebuilt by Lon Paul of Tanglewood Ranch. Another special edition, like the one above, only a 1995 issue called 'Big Bore Rifles', also shows a Lon Paul 602, pp.96, in a synthetic stock with a pair of scopes to use and a removeable muzzle brake. (THIS IS THE RIFLE I'VE OGLED OVER FOR SO LONG AND WILL TRY TO EMULATE WITH THE A-BOLT II I'VE BEEN ASKING ABOUT). The question involves the two position safety switch that is described as being 'backwards'; back to fire/forward for safe...seemingly to simulate 'cocking' the hammer back before pulling the trigger. Being that I have so far been a Remington bolt-action rifle user, this would be backwards indeed. Now, I'm wondering if it would be possible to reverse the backwards safety to make it function in the directions a Remington rifle would have... It makes me think that in such a case, a Remington rifle enthusiast would be able to have a .375 H&H with extra capacity AND controlled-round-feed ![]() ![]() Are the BRNO/CZ like Clark Kent/Superman? Am I thinking and reading too much again? ![]() [ 07-29-2003, 06:17: Message edited by: BusMaster007 ]

Okay, the 602 has a backwards safety... it's BACK to shoot, and FORWARD to safe... you certainly could screw that up... you can replaced/upgrade that safety for a 2-pos for about 100, or a 3 pos for 150... and be SAFE jeffe

Yep, I sure COULD screw it up! ![]() I drive anything from little GILLIG 30-ft. 1-door diesel coaches to BREDA 60-ft. Dual Mode Diesel/Electric Trolley Articulated coaches and whatever comes between those on a daily basis. Being conscious of what I'm driving at all times, I can still tag a curb if the set-up isn't just right. Point being, my collection is based on two-position safeties being either ON or OFF, so I'm not interested in changing that at this point to a 3-position wing type. The pistols, shotguns, rifles - are all two-position. The only weird one of the bunch is the Ruger 10/22 with the safety in the front of the triggerguard...all the others are at the rear, where they should be... ![]() I'd rather not have one of them operate contrary to everything else. Seeing how much money gets into the hands of the custom rifle builders, I had to ask if this might be a feasible change to that system. What 2-position replacement safety did you refer to?

Busmaster, I had my BRNO M602 .375 H&H converted from a "wrong-way safety" to a M70-style safety. Now both my .375s operate the same. After I took the BRNO to Africa to hunt I vowed I would "fix" the safety or sell the rifle. The current CZ M550 rifle has a two-position safety that operates in conventional fashion. You won't have any trouble with moving from a Remington M700 to this rifle, which is a fine hunting rifle by the way. jim dodd

The current batch of CZ550 rifles, including the .375, uses the forward-fire safeties. I don't believe they are interchangeable with the Brno 600 series rifles. There seems to have been some early CZ550 models made with the backwards safety.
