Got my moose last Thursday morning, using my 375 Taylor that I had built this summer. Used a 260 grain Ballistic Tip (because I had used all my 270 grain Hornady's just working up loads and fireforming), and it was a one-shot affair...bullet slipped in just behind the front shoulder, moose slightly angling away, and exited out the back of the other shoulder. Exit wound was LARGE to say the least.....found the green Ballistic Tip still in the meat, and lots of 'shrapnel' channels. It was a small moose, maybe 85 pounds a quarter, so I lost a little meat from the front. But it sure wasn't running away on me! Anyone trying out the 260 grain Accubonds yet? I like the way Ballistic Tips shoot, but don't like the way they expand. I guess it is a function of being a plastic-tipped bullet, the rapid epansion, but the Accubond seems maybe a bit better idea. The 260 grain load that I dropped the moose with is doing 2740 fps, with 72 grains of 4064. Still experimenting with OAL and powder charge...... | ||

Congrats CampX! Gotta love it when a plan comes together. I am betting the accubond will be a much better bullet for you in the long run. Ballistic tips were not designed for penetration, and I think you would be much better served by a bonded core or A-frame/partition style bullet for moose, elk etc, if you don't always plan on taking the perfect broadside shot. That 260 gr Ballistic tip would be hell on deer, wolves and coyotes though! If you can post a pic, I'd love to see it too. I have yet to get my boots dirty this season (been chained to my desk), so I have had to live vicariously through the hunts of others. Hence my new tag line....
