I saw a discussion elsewhere regarding the 1/2" bore diameter limitation. The ATF regs clearly state "not likely to be used as a weapon" and "intended for sporting purposes." Obviously our 585s, 600, 700s, etc. are intended for sporting purposes and not likely to be used as weapon. Would a single shot (Striker for instance) chambered in something larger than .500 pass the test? Or would it require a DD stamp? This is of course assuming one would actually fire it! :-) How 'bout some discussion on this. Thanks

I still have not gotten a reply from the BATF on my Howda question. I'm almost thinking of getting two of the EAA 45-70 doubles and useing one for the Howda. That way I'll be under the 50 cal limit. lar.

Your absolute best bet is to write the ATF for clarification on this. Once you receive it, please post it here (and carry the original with you when you have that big Striker with you! ). George

Good idea George. Here is a quote from a fella on Subguns/NFA board: ""It depends... ATF defines a DD as any breach loader with a .50 cal bore or larger. (SOME TIMES) At the last Safari Club show I talked with the rep from Holland & Holland, their .600 and .700 bore rifles are DDs. The desert eagle and M-2 both have bores of .510 but are not considdered DDs. This law does not apply to mussle loaders and some real old guns like the Krupp cannon. (I think antique 8 bores are ok but chaek with ATF). To the letter of the law, it does not apply to shotguns. I know the USAS-12 and Street Sweeper are DDs, but that was a Clinton thing."" So all of us with 577s and 585s, 600s, etc. without the stamp are violated the law? Hmmmm, I am having a problem with that. They are not intended as weapons (human) and they pass the sporting test. How about some input from you guys building these things? Would one of you guys chamber a Striker in 577 for me? Ouch!

I didn't see anything at the BATF site defineing the Sporting Test. It sounded like a subjective term to be applied by the Director as he deems fit. When he sees my letter, I hope he's got some the night before. lar.
