RL-17 is a great powder. Whenever I see any I buy it. I only have 4 pounds of it now, looking for an 8-pound jug of it. It is very compact for its high energy content, and it has a unique mixture of retardant within the grains, not just coating on the outside. Yet it is very easy to ignite, even a 200-grain charge of it in a 12 GaFH with 1400-grain slug, using only a 209 shotgun primer. I think it must be "Thermo-Ballistically Independent" or TBI. Maybe as insensitive to temperature as the beloved Hodgdon Extreme line of powders from Australia? I have many uses for it now too, whenever I get the chance to load and shoot. Good choice for the .416 Ruger and 400-grain bullets. Noted. From 30-06 to 12GaFH. Maybe the .375 Weatherby too ... | |||
