Took one in Omay North Zim in Sept 2007. Hit him 14 times with a 458 lott. Because of where the bull was and the angle, first shot in rear lung area with Barnes FN 500 solid. Could not shoot again because of the herd jumping up. Tracked him for 90 minutes. Everytime we same him we fired. Finally heard the death bellow and man what a relief. I have shot 2 buffalo with a 375 H&H About a dozen or so with both 416 Weatherby and 416 Rigby. The rest have all been shot with the 375/404. Buffalo are NOT bullet proof. Hit them in the right place, and they will die, like any other animal. All the PH I have talked to prefer their clients to use a 375 IF he can shoot it, rather than those carrying larger calibers they are scared off and cannot shoot well.

i dont really know around 15-17, shot alot for lion bait. 17" boss is my smallest(I have pics) both sides are broken off. its histerical, big bodied dugga boy, great fillets and bait too. yes we did get lions that trip. 41,42 or 42,43 are my biggest 2 from the same heard at the same time, I think 41",42" is the right size for my personal best-not too great, we saw a monster cow once looked like a air plane but we couldnt catche it, boy did we try. I'm not into buffalo like Saeed, most of mine are because they were on quota and needed to be harvested or for baits, when I didnt have any hunting experience I wanted to learn to hunt them and do it, while I love buffalo hunting for me it pales in compairson to elephant hunting, and takes a back seat to lion hunting. I still love it but its 3rd on my list. happy hunting i think Saeed is around 225-240, he is just being modest. I have shot 2 with a 450 dakota and they did die better(faster) than the others(about 15) with a 375 H&H with 300gr X-bulletts. The bigger gun just seemed to work better. infact I did shoot one with factory loaded 270gr X-bullettts that were moving slow, I shit it 7 or 8 times(a disaster) never had that problem again, I take pride in one shot kills-as often as possible. I's say 50% of my buffalo are one shot kills. sitting here thinking of it, i have video of most of my hunts and a good memory. but after 200 I coudnt remember either. Saeed hits them real good-he is a excelent hunter. sorry about the spelling, I missed that class.

Two, both in Botswana in the Okavango Delta. The first, which was the first animal that I shot that didn't have feathers, was with a 375 H&H using Federal 300 gr TBBCs. The first shot, broadside, went through the lungs but missed the heart. The next two were Texas heart shots, one of which broke the pelvis. The next two were in the shoulder and he went down. It seemed like it took 10 minutes but the whole thing was over in about 60 seconds and the Buff didn't go more than 10 yds. The second was with a 404 Jeff using a woodleigh soft loaded to 2180 fps. It went straight through the heart but I followed it up with a Woodleigh solid loaded similarly and it dropped where it stood. I've shot a number of African trophies, but those two stand out in my mind.

Rob, you do realise that Cape Buff and Aussie Water Buff are pretty much about the same for size, weight, temprement, built like a tank, ect ect, yes ? Did you even look at the vid, the buff even look the same.

How many were shot up close and how many times were you charged. I am debating between Africa and oz. JD DRSS 9.3X74 tika 512 9.3X74 SXS Merkel 140 in 470 Nitro

JD, just an opinion, but; the OZBuff are tame animals gone feral pretty much. Cape Buffalo are all wild, and everybody knows what you mean when you say you shot one. My initial impression of Asiatic Buffalo is memories of 7-10 year old children riding on their backs in rice paddies. JMHO, Rich Cape Buffalo Killer

JD: All were up close as I used a 12G with solids, somewhere between 15m-50m, depending how good I was at stalking or how switched on the buff was. The younger the buff, the closer I could get before the stare down began, then its a 50/50% if the bugger will charge. Thing is, if just one charges in a herd, so do the rest! Idaho: HA! Tame, I'd like to see you try to ride one, I'll visit whats left of you in hospital. Tame my arse! Once maybe they may have been, like 100y ago when they first got here, but these sods are anything but, they are mean, stubbon, cranky, smart, aggressive and just plain dangerous. Aus Water Buffalo are indeed wild and can become cranky, but there's something about a Bovine that is constantly being harassed by old Leo.
