MJinesTip is currently building me a .458 Win Mag on a Springfield action. Should have the rifle in several weeks.

He is one of the nicest fellows you will ever meet and is very responsive and easy to get in touch with. He built the Houston Safari Club's President's rifle this year, a .500 Jeffery, and it was a beautiful rifle.

lee440What part of Houston are you in, and are you looking to adjust the factory trigger or replace it? Lee

mitchell6873I'm in the NW area but I don't mind a little drive for quality. Anyone have a contact # for Tip Burns?

mufasaCharley Sisk is in the Dayton area and he could certainly do the work if you could talk him into doing it. Try (936)-258-4984. Kerry O'Day at MGA right by Carter's Country on Treshweig can do it (281)-821-8282.

mitchell6873Have you used Charlie before? I had a bad experience with Matchgrade Arms...won't use them again.

I second that. I had a friend that had Sisk do some work a year or two ago and he was very happy.
As usual just my $.02

Make it a third. Never let them bed a barreled action.

MHC_TXI had Briley's do a trigger job on one of my rifles. They did just what I wanted and had the gun back to me in less than 2 weeks.

mitchell6873Thanks MHC, I was actually considering Brileys...glad to hear good feedback on them. Do they have a number of gunsmiths and you just get the luck of the draw or is it one guy? They are pretty close to home but saving driving time isn't my priority. Anyone else use them?
21 April 2006, 07:54
MJinesI had Brileys put a Kick EEZ recoil pad on my Heym M88D. They did a fine job. Even though it was just a recoil pad I did not want just anyone taking a saw to the stock of the Heym.

JMJ888Briley has cornered the market on shotguns and any work involved with them. I think they have had some "shifting around" in their rifle department though. If you look on their wesite they have an opening for a gunsmith in the rifle shop...just some food for though.

470CapstickA2I know several people who have had some rifles built by Briley... I met the guy, and his name is either Aaron or Erin, who did all of the work... both guns shoot dime size groups at 100 yds... one a 300 wsm and the other a 7rusm.. I shoot lots of shotgun, but Briley won't turn out a bad job.. and their time estimates are accurate.

I had some work done on handguns by Briley and they were the absolute worst. Hopefully they do a better job on rifles and I would imagine they are the best when it comes to shotguns. It has been a couple of years and things may have changed but I won't be going back.
