Marvelous.

Department of Unsolicited Advice: Treat with neetsfoot oil about once a year. Won't harm the stitching.

Good hunting.

What does it weigh empty? full?

Thanks everyone.jjbull,I just received it this morning.I`ll weigh it shortly and post.I really like it.It does not have a soggy and limp feel to it as some do including some belts made from ele leather I saw in Africa. It is stiff and crisp and does not move or shift when I draw or pull out rounds.I asked that it be made to hold a complete factory box of ammo or 20 rounds.I learned on my last hunt that I need about this much. The loops stay open and are stiff. The rounds slide into them with a perfect pressure and must be pulled out in turn with the same amount and will not pop out unnecessarily.

I think 20 is enough.I just weighed it on a bakers scale and it weighs 3lbs 15oz with 20 rds of loaded 550 grainers. It weighs 1lb 7oz empty.

Nice belt there but just check that the buckle pin does not protrude to far out as they can damage the rifle or hunting vehicular if rubbed against. If so you can flatten the pin a bit with a hammer. The buckle roller can also be crimped if it makes too much noise.

A wise blackman once told me "its better looking at them than looking for them".
This might be such a situation that this statement is sound advise and just because it holds a maximum of twenty does not mean it needs to be full. A slight gap between softs and solids is a good idea.

Forgive me but neatsfoot oil (note the "a") is likely to soften and weaken the area around the stitching and should never be allowed to accumulate around any stitching and better should be quickly deposited in the trash. A superb and relatively safe product is Passier Lederbalsam. It's German and any decent tack shop will carry it.

I'm a full time horse trainer and I clean at least some leather product every single day.

Shootaway,

Is your friend willing to create custom ammo belts for anyone else...? If so, I would be happy to pay him well for his exemplary work.

Phill

Wow. Your leather guy obviously knows his stuff as do you in your choice of artisan. I have seen similar belts on a Australian site and have a great appreciation for their work and design. I really appreciate your guy's rolling of the top of the loops. Well done.

I am a fan of your posts.

OzHunter,

Thanks for the information...I went ahead and ordered one of the Galco Culling Belts in .505 Gibbs for potential use as a back up ammo rig.

Shootaway,

Still interested in a custom made ammo belt from your friend, however.

Respects,

Phill

Phil,I asked him and he doesn`t seem that interested. He said ``I`ll see`` and ``I made that one especially for you`` I think that there is too much work involved for the money he asked from me,but still money is money and if he changes his mind and shows some interest,I`ll let you know.BTW,I paid 150 for it.

Shootaway,

No problem...I figured it was probably a one time sort of thing, but, if he wants to go ahead with it at a latter date, just let me know. Thank you for asking him on my behalf.

Respects,

Phill
