I really like this caliber. However, bullets and brass are hard to come by. I've been amusing myself for the last two days building a mold for a 900 gr bullet to be cast from pure Linotype. It's been an informative project and I just finished it and thought you all might like to see it before it gets carbonized. The first picture is of the CHERRY I made from water hardening 5/8 drill rod. I used this to make the mold. I only put three flutes on it and that was a major mistake. I now know that these things must have six flutes to cut properly. It worked in the end and at least didn't warp too much when I heat treated it. The rest of the mold was done in 6061 aluminum stock and if I had thought about it properly, I could easily have made a double cavity mold. Anyway it was fun and interesting.-Rob

Way cool Rob,
The .622" (I can only assume) mold looks great. You are a wonder in the machine shop. Good luck on your Safari to the Dark Continent.

ps. We'll try and get by without you 'teasing' us with fun new ideas [Wink]

Rob,

Would you consider making these available for the "600 club"? If so, and rough estimate on cost for a 1 or 2 cavity? The NEI .622" 900 gr has too small of a meplat for my tastes, but your prototype looks spot on.

Have you contactacted Hornbear about 600 RGB brass?
