Barnes .458, 450 grain TSX, with H4895 and 60% rule
Thanks to raamw I have a stock of the Barnes 450s at less than $0.25 each. These will be practice, plinking and deer bullets in my 458 Lott. Maybe DG bullets too, if I can decide between them and the 420 grain CEBs.

So using Hodgdon's 60% rule for H4895, and 458 Win Mag data I want to make some fairly stiff 45-70-450 loads, maybe 1800 fps?

Does anyone know, what velocity will open the 450 TSX? I have heard that 1800 fps will get them somewhat open. I also know that the 458 hole is probably enough for deer all by itself.

I will crimp, using the Lee FCD die, right at the top of the top groove in the bullets. This is what I need to fit my mag box. Any tips on the Win Mag or Lott and reduced loads?

Thanks,

no data on the loads .. but 1800, basis other experience, is likely high ..i'd figure closer to 1300-1400

and yep, a .458 hole is enough .. they won't open much at 1800, and nil at 1400, to speak of .
