There's an interesting and informative article on the .600 Nitro Express by Cal Pappas in this month's Sports Afield.

There's also a fine article by Harry Selby on his .416 Rigby in the same issue.

Both are good reading.

I really like the direction SA has taken over the past few years.

I agree. For some reason I have been getting issues of SA recently, nice magazine now. Some years ago I had it, and dropped it quick, found nothing of value in it at all. Seems to have made a very big change in the last year or so! Not sure if I have received that yet or not? Will be on the look out!

Controlled hunting is a partner of conservation in our world. It brings funds to areas that otherwise would only have poaching. It is nice to see that the media is warming up.

I've been a subscriber since I first came across it in 2004 - it is definitely one of the better quality hunting mags...

I was thinking it was sometime around 2000 or a little later when it came back out and was real quality.

I remember it from back in the 60's and 70's and they had good hunting and fishing articles in them.

Then in the 80's and early 90's, they went Greenie and turned to shit.

Then the publication dropped out of sight for a whilke, then early 2000 or so, they showed back up with the new format and it is a really good magazine in my opinion.

I used to subscribe to several of those gun rags back in the early 80's but dropped most of them because of re-hashing the same old topics.

I gave away a truck load of magazines from the 1960's to the mid 80's and only kept 5 or 6 that I thought were good enough to pass on to my son's later down the road.

I amazingly found it sold at the save mart close to my daughter's preschool, only place I've seen it on the stand locally. The issue I found had an article by Selby on safaris (I haven't read it yet) and I think an article by STeven dodd hughes. is this issue about Harry's 416 before or after the one I got? (If after I have hope of finding it for sale there).

Yes, the new SA is geared to be a hunter's magazine, rather than another general all-sports rag. I'm quite impressed with the new publications.

Red, the issue I mentioned at the start of this thread is a later one than the issue you're referring to.

SA has published a handful of articles by Harry Selby and I have enjoyed them all, including this latest one.

I believe that Ludo Wurfbain, of Safari Press, is in charge at SA now.

Also, Steven Dodd Hughes writes an always interesting column in each issue on the subject of custom rifles.

I say keep up the good work! tu2

I have subscribed to many different magazines over the years. These days Sports Afield, African Hunter and Rifle pretty much cover it for me...
Tell me if I'm missing out on something! Wink
Oh and Fly Rod & Reel and Chasing Silver...
A friend recently sent me a copy of Eastman's Journal which was interesting too.

I think I have a problem Smiler
