Hello, Is anyone interested in attending the International Big Game shoot in England? They would like a US team to participate. I am going to try and make it if work allows. My intent is to host the match in 2018 here in MT. Mine would be a 2-3 day event with more options and events for big bore plus 5 stand and sporting clays.

Here is some info on the match:
Ashes Match - 10th September 2016

The course of fire for the Ashes match is a little different than most other BSRC club events but is close to events shot regularly by the Big Game Rifle Club in Australia. Here are the highlights of what will be shot and how. The Swedish Deer is a regular BSRC test.

Calibres used,

Group 1 Nitro; these are .330 and above. Note .338 calibre is NOT allowed on NRA Bisley ranges. Most common calibres used here are .375 & 9.3mm

Group 2 Nitro; these are .40 and above, so we see 404’s, 416’s & 458’s.
In Australia there is a Group 3 stopper which is .485 and above, but we don’t shoot this owing to our range maximum.

Double rifle: this is rifle style specific, with any centre fire calibre above .228 being eligible.

Targets.

The target preferred by large rifle shooters the world over is the PL7 or the international Slow Fire Pistol Target. It has an 8” black bullseye & scores 1 to 6 in the white and 7 to 10 in the black, with a smaller dotted V bull. This is the target we use for all these events.

All the events are range simulations of big game field condition shooting and as such there are no aids

The actual course of fire was similar for the Group 1, Group 2 and BPE, these being;
Group One: (33’s, 35’s, 375’s etc) (12 shots)
100 yards - 2 shots off hand, (5 minutes).
2 shots kneeling or sitting, (5 minutes).
50 yards - 2 shots off hand, (5 minutes).
2 shots off hand in 10 seconds.
25 yards - 2 x 2 shots off hand, (10 seconds, each bracket of 2 shots).

Group Two: (400’s, 416’s, 450’s to 470’s etc) (10 shots)
100 yards - 2 shots off hand, (5 minutes).
50 yards - 2 shots off hand, (5 minutes).
2 shots off hand in 10 seconds.
25 yards - 2 x 2 shots off hand, (10 seconds, each bracket of 2 shots).

Double Rifle: (10 shots – any centre fire double rifle above .228)
50 yards - 2 shots off hand, (5 minutes).
4 shots off hand in 16 seconds.
25 yards - 4 shots off hand in 16 seconds.

Special Snap: Any Group One rifle or larger calibre. (8 shots)
25 yards - 8 shots off hand in 35 seconds.

Swedish Deer: Shot at 100m on the Running Deer range using

the normal Running Deer target, the format of this competition is

a series of six runs of the target (three out and three back), with two

shots on each run of the target. The first shot is taken with the target

stationary at the start of the target run, the second 'on report' with the

target in motion (it moves off with the first shot). No dry firing, no sighting

shots, no shooting aids.

Stalking rifles suitable for large deer.

Under the Australian rules some categories are irons only (open or sporting aperature) and some allow scopes with a penalty. I have not seen the final rules for this UK shoot.

The event started in Australia and the rules are on this web site. The rules are modified for International Shoots.

Generally the rules used in international shoots have been different to the rules we use in Australia as far as scope penalties go. So there is some latitude, but in the interests of consistency the closer each country is to the standard format the better. However, in the past, it has been up to the host club. I am sure it will be published soon.
