got it out to the range 2 times now. The first time, I was very disappointed with the accuracy. I was using 350gn sierras behind Imr 4064 and getting 2" + groups at 100 yards. I was shooting off a lead sled on a bench.

I took it home and noticed the action screws were not very tight. I pulled it out, opened the barrel channel a little, adjusted the trigger all the way down, and tightened the action screws down good.

This time out I shot prone off a bipod with 350gn TTSX and shot consistent 5 shot groups of 1" and 3 shot groups all touching.

I'm pleased with the accuracy turnaround and don't think I'll need to replace the barrel after all. the action feeds super slick and the weight is about perfect.

I'm going along with 323's idea. I once fixed up a whole set of Winchester Model 70 Classic stainless synthetics with Ruger stainless banded front sights and barrel bands in .458 Lott, .375 H&H, .338 Win Mag, 300 Rem Ultra Mag and 30-06. You couldn't have ask for a better do it all combo than those rifles were at an affordable price. Add to this the fact that Talley now makes detachable rings and mounts in stainless, coupled with a stainless Leupold scope and you have a great combination for a go anywhere do anything rifle in .375 H&H.

Yes, when you said 350gr, I was thinking that I'd have chosen a different bullet if I wanted to make shots at 400 yards :-)

That is what I would have went with...given the choices, and the price. I like the african model a little better with the barrel band and heavier barrel contour...run a reamer in it and make it a 375 weatherby now that is a 375...

Glad you got yours shooting well. I have not even shot mine yet, been dealing with my sons' new guns first. But I also plan to shoot 250's out of mine, or actually, start with 260 accubonds. I also have some sierras for practice, but am trying to find some TTSX's to try.

I pulled mine out of the stock and took the adjustment screw out of the trigger so it is at a minimum. Feels much better. I tightened it back down to 35 inch pounds when reassembling, also sealed the inside of the stock, so should be about ready.

What scope did you choose for yours? I sure hope mine shoots as well as yours does!

I put a trijicon 3-9x40 amber mildot on it with talley steel bases and screw detachable rings. I also took the adjustment screw out of the trigger and put a drop of oil on the sear through that little peep hole and it helped a lot. My experience with multiple 375's is the TSX's and the accubonds are the most consistently accurate bullets in this caliber. I still need to seal the inside of the stock since i sanded some of the barrel channel away.

The load that I used was the 250gn TTSX with Remington brass, CCI LRM primers, 69gn IMR 4064, and COL 3.600 with a slight roll crimp just over the edged of the last relief groove.

This is similar to my setup. I have the Talley quick detach rings, but I have the screws in place instead of the levers just now. Had the levers on my last 375, and they are convenient, but actually like the look of the screws better, and they don't catch on stuff. I actually like Leupold QR's for looks best, with the very small levers built into the bases, but they hang over badly on the Mod 70's, and I can't live with that.

I went scoped similarly to you, in that it is not a short scope with a small objective, but more a general use scope.

On that load, was considering 4064 and TTSX's but could not find decent data, and one guy had posted some pressure issues with the combo. But you seem to have it working just fine!

Any idea on the velocity of that combo out of your Alaskan?

That load data I got from the older barnes manual and that load is listed for the 250 old X bullet so I figured the same load with TTSX would be fine since it should be less pressure. the manual says 2678 but I don't have a chronogragh and am hoping with my 25" barrel it is hitting 2700fps.
Barnes Manual:
24" barrel
250gn XFB or solid
Min) 69gn IMR 4064 2678fps
Max) 74gn IMR 4064 2872fps

I shot up to 73gn and it was 17 degrees out. I got no flattened primers, no ejector marks, and easy extraction.

I also didn't start to get compressed loads until 71-72 gn and pouring the powder slower and tapping the cases allowed me to seat 73gn without compressing the powder column
