Does anyone on this forum have a reamer for any of the .458 Wildcats built on the .404 Jeffery case that they would like to sell or rent out? My Enfield (P-17 by Winchester) is FINALLY getting rebarreled. I want to do something that has a bit more power than the .458 Win mag and I really like the Jeffery case. I know about the .458 Lott and the .460 WBY. I don't want to do them unless it is necessary. They are so normal. Joe doesn't like normal. And I do like the .457 bore.
I could get JGS to make me up a .450 Vincent but by the time all is said and done it will add about $500 to the project for the chamber reamer, die reamer and the head space gauge. I would like to cut down the cost if I can.

Reamers are sort of like a girl friend or a wife: Once you loan them out they don't come back the same and one has no idea of how it was treated. The one reamer I loaned liked its new home so much that it never returned!

Try Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool. Around $150 for each reamer, or $300 the set of finisher and resize. And Dave will custom grind to your specs at no additional cost. And they are removable pilot bushing type reamers. Reamer cost is the price of admission to our sport.

Some suggestions: 460 G&A, 450 Rigby, 450 Dakota, 458 Ultra, 460 Short A-Square, 450 Howell, 450 Ackley, etc. Or jump up a bit and go for a 470 Capstick, 475 Ackley, 475 A&M, 470 M'Bogo. Lots of choices!

I rented a reamer from a White Tool Co. I think in St Louis. I would try rentals.

I rented a reamer from them once, in the very common 7x57, and it looked like new, sharp too. It cut a very smooth chamber, even though powered by a T-handle. Price is right too, $29 + $5 for go/no-go. They have a fair number of wildcats.
