I have been throwing around the idea of getting a rifle chambered for this cartridge. Does any one know where I can get this done? I would like to have a Dakota rifle, but not to sure if I want to spend that much green. I would like to have one built, and need to know if/where I can get this done. Thanx. First of all welcome to the forum.. Any good gunsmith should be able to ream your chamber to .404 Dak. But you'll be wanting to start off with the correct bolt face and a wide enough ammo box so as to make your life a little more simple. You might want to give Dave Clay a call down in Texas. He's done some pretty good custom work for me. Call him at 817-783-6099.

Used Dakotas drop like a rock in value. Check http://www.auctionarms.com or http://www.gunsamerica.com and offer half what the gun cost new. Someone will accept your offer.

I was looking at doing this cartridge too, until I hit a few obstacles. First, I haven't been able to find any 404 reamers for rent (they are for sale however)....I just don't want to spend the money to own a reamer I will only use once. Second, Dakota Arms no longer offers the service of reaming chambers to their proprietary cartridges like they used to do (and used to do at reasonable prices I might add). They were so snippy on the phone about it I vowed never to own another Dakota cartridge or rifle. Garrett
