Get a copy of "Shooting the British Double Rifle" There's many loads there that will regulate in a DR if that's what you have. I load 35gr 5744 under cast lead in the 470 It yields about 1200fps, you can shoot all day. This loading was suggested by Butch Searcy, who also said 40 or 45 would be OK. I'd stick with Federal 215 primers. Keeping in mind that what I wanted was easy practice, I saw no reason to increase the load.

Remember if your going to shoot lead bullets in your .470NE to slug the bore and use a bullet thats 0.001 over the bore. Thats usually .475. The problem is most molds throw a .474 bullet so your accuracy may be so so unless you specifically get a .475 mold. I also highly reccomend you cast the bullets from Linotype. I gave Butch that load of 40-45 gr of IMR 5744 with no filler. It shoot beautifully in my Searcy 470NE double.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!
