300 grain bullets in .460 Weatherby
What velocity is possible to get in a .460 Weatherby magnum with a 300 grain bullet? I know that 3000FPS is possible with a 350grain bullet.

OK,
unless barnes is making 300gr .458 bullets, the 300 grain .458s bullets I know of will blue streak at 2900+...

In other words, probably 3000+ but why?

The bullets i make in 300 grain in .458 are flat nosed jacketed bullets .. and if you strat getting them to go tooooo high ah speed all you will have is a gray puff at about 50 yarts
But at 3000 FPS as nice as that sounds ..? what are you trying to kill .. Sounds to me like you will be taking crackers out hunting to spread
what you kill on them when alls said and done.

I carried 300gr. X bullets in a .460 on many pig hunts. I never cronographed them though.

I shot one running straight away at the base of the tail and rolled it up into a bush. There was a lot of meat damaged on that one so I quit using that load. But on broadside shots, immediately behind the shoulder, there's not much more damage than most any other weapon.

As the old theories say the penetration wasn't as good as with similar bullets in a .458 Win. Mag. I carried 350gr. X bullets in the .458 for years and never recovered a SINGLE bullet. I recovered about 20% of the light X's from the .460.

Yeah, Barnes makes a 300 gr 458. I was going to use it in my SOCOM one day but in the end, it's a waste for that round.

I would say maxed out in a 460 Weatherby you should be able to turn a whitetail inside out, LOL.

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

My 458HE gets a 300 gr out 3550, with
140 gr of H-335 DB Ball powder. So Wea should
get close.Maybe 3400. 1 of the 4 bullets shot with that load unglued
just after leaving muzzle.Ed

Hubel458!
Do you sure mean that 3400FPS is possible in .460Wby?
The rifle has a 26"barrel.
Wich powder should I use and how much?

Yes if it had long barrel like my gun.
With 26 in should do 3100 plus. Don't know what powder, and probably have to be slower than
the one I used. All loading data for 460
I've seen doesn't use as much powder as my cases does, even though Wea has about same case capacity.Magazine length constraints I guess

If I was loading a deer load for 460
I'd use 350 gr Speer, great on deer. I point
the lead nose, so they are like a spitzer, and shoot as flat in my gun as 180gr does in a
300Wea.Ed.
