I recently purchased a CZ550 in .416 rigby. Browsing thru the different posts it seems clearance over the bolt knob is a issue. My question is what scope/ring combos are other CZ owners using? Rob

Dont take any low ring. My 1.25-4 would interfere with the bolt knob at the adjusting ring. Perhaps with a fixed power scope. The EAW mounts are WAY too high. The original CZ mounts have a good rep.

I will try a combo of CZs with Kahles 8x56 ( and have that imbus always with me ? ) and Warne medium height with 1.25-4x24 Swarovski.

The main problem is the drop of the stock. Nobody at CZ gets it, that what counts is not a straight upper side of the stock, but rather the drop farther back to the buttplate is too much. I presume they also dont think a straight comb line looks good :-(

Good shooting! H

Demsey I am using cz magnum mounts on my .416 cz and have a 2-7 Vari x11 mounted in them. My mate has exactly the same set up on his .416 cz he has put 100 rounds through his and I have put through 50 rounds with no problems. The 2-7 has heaps of eye releif and good field of view. It suits the applications we have for our .416's. They have similar trajectory to the .375 H&H so a little extra magnification can sometimes help take advantage of that.

Regards PC.

alhunter,

What stock opitions are available for the CZ .416?? On there web page they show the stock I believe you are talking about, which I think is the Lux below:

How ever they also mention it is avilable in standard...Would this be the same as the picture below?

I would really like one with the American style straight stock. I wonder if they have any plans to market one like that or if they are available on special order from the factory...

Pete E,

I believe that the photo is out of date. My CZ 550 Safari Magnum .416 Rigby looks a LOT like the top photo, but the butt of the stock is much nearer vertical. It seems to fit me well, but I'm no expert.

The CZ rings work fine for me so far.

Recono,

Is your rifle the standard or the lux version?

If you use low Warne scope rings you will have to modify the bolt handle for clearance. I did this to my 500A2 on a CZ550 and it came out great. A clever option that I'm doing right now is to buy blank steel weaver bases and drill and tap the CZ for them. This way I can cut new slots to fit a Leupold M8 2.5X Compact scope and still use low Warne detachable rings.
As far as the stock goes, Elk Ridge, MPI and McMillan all make replacement stocks. You will just wait 3-6 months for them.-Rob

As of a few months ago, my version was the only version (at that moment). Mine had the Decelerator pad, which makes me think it was then (and probably still) the latest.

Their advertising is rather confusing, at least to me. As far as I know, the 550 Safari Magnum comes in only one version, a nicely finished rifle with a funny-looking "hog's-back" European stock that feels good to me. Looks just like the picture posted here, except for the butt.

Hope this answers your question.

You are all correct. The usual stocks ( lux model? ) have a humpback. But the angle of the buttplate on that photo looks ridiculous, Ive never seen such a thing IRL.

There are plainer stocks, too, but although they look ( and feel ) better, there is still too much drop. Also they are very "thin" so I look from the right side at them. Contrary to most people at this forum Im a right hander.

Good shooting! Hermann

I used Warne medium high QR rings to mount a Leupold 1-4x20 on my CZ 550 Magnum. This worked well, the clearance for the bolt handle is about 1/6 of an inch.

I have the straight stock that doesn't look like either of the posted pics. It's plain but very functional and suits me both for irons and the scope.
