This company has an online program that lets you put in your own info and design a bullet within normal paramaters. Then they cut a mold to make that bullet. I have a bucket of 10mm I designed this way. http://www.mountainmolds.com/ I can't find any light .416 bullets at all. With that program I was able to design a round nose flat point, with a meplate that is 60% as big as the caliber, at 250 grains, with a gas check. The bullet looks like it would have 2 wax rings and 3 rings riding on the bore. I could load up with a pinch of fast powder and get the same speed with a lot less recoil. Or more speed if I wanted it. This bullet would be for plinking and deer hunting. Our whitetails are a little bigger than dogs, but not much. Would this work? Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks. The twist of your rifle might be so fast the short bullet may not be accurate. If you want better accuracy use the standard heavy bullet weight and shoot it about 1100 fps. | |||

I hadn't thought of slowing them down that much. It would probably be a lot of fun throwing 400gr like that. Still kind of expensive though, about $1 per bullet, unless I can find a cheaper supply. Is there some online calculator or something that could tell me what is *likely* the lightest bullet I could use based on twist? Maybe this is a fine compromise. I just ordered the 335 beartooth bullet which I hear shoots just fine. These bullets will be cheap enough to shoot and very comfortable if I don't hot-rod them. It looks like my bullet idea is just not at all likely to be stable out of the 1:14 barrel. Not likely at all. And the barnes 300gr with a fair amount of powder behind it should fly far and fast for deer. Not cheap enough for plinking, but just fine for hunting. Thanks for the help with the links and stuff.
