Paul HMy previous lott would do 2280 with 500 hornady softs, it had a 21 1/2" ported tube, the new one is 22" and so far I've only gone up to 2200 fps. The new gun has a much tighter chamber and is getting notably higher velocities than the first gun.
I do believe the production 458 lotts tend to have tighter chambers and shorter throats than some of the wildcat day Lotts, and hence may not be capable of the same velocities.
Anyhow, 500's @ 2200 are easy, 2300 may require high pressures or a long barrel, and some folks report even higher speeds, but I wouldn't go there.

jeffeossothe lott generally gets interesting in a 24" barrel at 2250-2280 ... some folks can make 2300, but it's not the norm at acceptable pressures...
now, enter the 458 AR... which can (and has) hit 2325 with a 22" barrel ... and velocity is TBD on the 24 and 26"

WillI was getting 2300+ with my Lott in a 22" barrel. It is somewhat dependent on your chamber, etc.

loud-n-boomerI can get about 2,325 with 500-grain bullets out of the 24-inch barrel on mine, but my hunting loads are loaded at 2,200 fps to keep pressure and recoil to reasonable levels.

ozhunterThank you all for your replies.
loud-n-boomer, Your reply was the just what I wanted to hear.
My question should have included; what sensible speed for reacoil, pressure and peformance?
