PoppaW505 Gibbs on a budget
I was talking to a buddy who wants a 505 also and we were wondering what actions are capable of handling this cartridge. We both like the Ruger #1 but would prefer a bolt gun. I see a lot of CZ's but we were curious about others. We can get 98k Mausers here reasonably cheap but were thinking it was too small.

jeffeossoof the 50's, its hard to choose one that intrensicly has a higher cost than the 505 gibbs..
that being said, ya'll need to find a smith that has thee reamer, if reamer rentals aren't available in kanuckistan....
cheap? aint gunna happen... but the lowest cost way.... BUY THE CZ in 505.. no, seriously, as building one... well, see below
contact jim wisener for this article on enfields
get an enfield
get a barrel
order brass and dies (this will be a "cheap" deal breaker)
have a smith plumb it for you, hand him the article
just to here is going to cost you 1500K usd....
and the stock can cost that again

idahochukar2505 ammo on a budget? Get yourself some led, a pot to melt it in and cast your own bullets. No way of getting around how much you'll spend on powder. That's what Rich Kayser does and I shot his CZ 505 recently. Don't try to reinvent the wheel is my .02 cents.....unless your pockets are pretty deep.
His new baby canon is about ready to reach another critical stage. Can't wait to shoot it. Will have the medics nearby

Idaho Sharpshooterthanks for the "profs" Jake. At 20 cents a pound for wheel weights, my 650gr cast gas checked bullets for my 505 Gibbs cost me about a nickel (electricity for the pot included) apiece, plus four cents for the gas check and lube. My casting set up is spendy, but I bought it all more than twenty years ago. If you shop for mil-surp powders, I can shoot those cast bullets over 2300fps for less than a forty cents a loaded round.

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."
