Of course that would be the .470 Capstick by the Winchester Custom Shop. Fits your requirements to a tee. Or how about a .460 G&A for a bit more bother? This is the one based on the .404 Jeffery, as you know. I wouldn't go any bigger than that. Winchester seems to have quit messing with the .416 Rigby size case heads that they experimented with for a while. That might require a bit too much whittling on the action. I would say go with the .470 Capstick.

You could do a .460 Weatherby. Or a .450Rigby. I've got a friend who just did a .450Rigby on a model 70.

Tye is looking to move off of the .458 Lott and wants to find a caliber that fits in a Model 70 Magnum action, shoots a 500 gr. bullet at a true 2300 fps in a 23-24" barrel. Is there such a beast? If so, what can you tell us about it? Many thanks, Sam eclemmons@hotmail.com

500 gr has or did have a .585 Nyati on an M70...ver nice rifle I might add. The .585 Nyati's Inventor Ross Seyfried designed the round to fit in an m98....wether this is practical is debateable but it can be done. By the way the .585 Nyati meets your power requirements

Big Sam I have a highly modified M70 in .500 Jefferys. It has a custom trigger guard and floorplate to hold 3 rounds in the magazine along with custom follower and action mods to allow straight line feed of a single cartridge at the top of the magazine. Trigger has been lenghtened also to allow for the extended floorplate. At 9.5 lbs it is a lightweight but is a rifle one can carry all day. 11lbs with scope mounted - because it is so accurate [MOA at 100yds] I added a detachable scope to allow for longer shots on Buffalo which occasionally present. 570gr at 2175fps or 535 gr at 2350fps from 23" barrel. Woodleigh 570gr solids have exited on broadside shoulder shots with elephant. A stopper if you can handle the associated recoil. Not a rifle one shoots great # of rounds anyway and with the adrenaline up the most noticeable feature is muzzle climb. I have it Magna Ported which controls some of the rise along with a recoil reducer in the butt. Just don't squat on the side of an anthill to gain elevation and squeeze one off! Did it on my first trip with it in Chewore years ago to great mirth of PH and crew!Rolled me off my perch over backwards. PH was watching buff cow through binos and saw the hole appear on her shoulder at about 70 yds! We needed some lion bait.
