Hi
I just want to give som feed back on my hunting load in .458 Win.

I am loading a Woodleigh 400 pp to 725 ms/2380 fps.
I had the good fortune to be able to shoot a moose cow last week.
The live weight was aprox 300 + kg/700 lbs.
The bullet hit the moose in the shoulder, broke bones and went in to the "boiler room" and angeld forvard and out through the next shoulder.

The moose fell in her tracks at the shot, got up and valked 4 meters and fell.

There was very little meat damage, no splinters from the bullt found anywere. This leading me to belive that the bullet stayed intact with very high rest weight.

I can recomend this bullet for this application!
I am very pleased.

Softlead,

Thanks for the imfo on the 400 gr woodleigh bullet. If I get the chance to shoot more feral horses that may be the bullet of choice as it would perfrom similarly I would expect.

At what distance was the moose ??

Softlead what sort of .458 do you have ??

I have a cz .458 Lott (it was a .458 win mag)I have fired a few 400 gr speer Flat points from it but have not managed to bag any game with these bullets yet. They open up at 45/70 speeds so at lott speeds they will be explosive. Hopefully this weekend I will test them on game.

Hi
I have a Winchester Safari Express i .458 Win.

I have removed the restrictor in the magazine and cut back the bolt stop. This enable me to use Lott length cartiges, with Win Mag cases.
This is what i call .458 WIN SBO (Seat Bullet Out).

I make a new crimping groove on the bullet with a Lee FC 444 Marlin die, direct on the bullet before loading the ammo. Then I use the .458 Win FC to crimp the case and bullet with new crimp groove together.

I get an easy 700 ms with Hornady 500s.
The 500 gr load is strictly for pleasure at the range, it is too unpractical to hunt moose with.

I used the Woodleigh 400 PP in a 458 lott on an elk with good results also.
