I saw a Sako AV (late 1970s early 1980s model) in 375 H&H the other day. It had a plastic follower. I have not seen a plastic one before are they common in the 375? Thanks. | ||

Funny, I have seen alot of Sako's and owned quite a few as well, but I've only seen one plastic follower, and it was purchased as a spare part from Stoegers. The purchaser was me! The reason for the plastic in my opinion was to reduce the mass of the follower and thereby reduce the battering which takes place in the magazine box. The reason the box batters is because it's a cheap stamping. The rest of the rifle is a real firearm.  Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! The only plastic one I have seen was in 9.3x62 CZ 550. The stupid screw on round bolt knob was also coming loose, dreadful!  | |||

When I was stationed in Germany from 1983-84 while serving in the Army I purchased quite afew Sako rifles form the Rod and Gun Club. The last one that I bought was a standard in .375. I noticed that it had a plastic follower. I called the factory rep, and he stated that Sako was currently making rifles with a plastic follower. I asked him to send me a steel one, and thankfully I recieved it. Hopefully this will answer your question. I do believe that this practice was short lived, and they returned to making steel followers. I'm just not sure when that occured | |||

Howdy, I just searched and found this post. I just bought an AV .338 that is as new and was a little chagrined to find the plastic follower. I am glad to see it was a factory one however, and not a replacement. Bo Rich, if you are still around, and know that rep, I would appreciate a PM with a name and number to see if I could order one myself. Gary, as mentioned above Sako produced rifles with the plastic followers but they are not nearly as common as the steel followers, but they work just fine. Also, Warne rings will look great on your new purchase. Congratulations!  Lou**************** NRA Life Benefactor Member | |||
