Fergus, There is a company in New Zealand that makes some really good magnum type Mauser actions. NitroX has posted about them and you could e-mail/PM him and find out about them. There is also the South African Truvelo company and I have their catalogs on e-mail and could send them to you if you like and introduce you to people there. I know nothing about them and do not have any really big bore rifles and you may want to check with the experts here about their views on these. Good hunting and please post pictures of your rifles here when they are completed.

Fergus, I don't understand the need for a long action for a .500 Jeff. Schuler specifically designed that superfat cartridge to fit into a M98's length. As I have always understood it, the problem is in modifying the magazine because of the girth of the brass. , I don't see how longer helps, though perhaps I'm missing something. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Try these guys. I own two of their Long Actions a left and and right for 404 Jeffery projects. Surely, they would do for your 500 Jeffery. Montana Rifle Company

Robthom, As far as I was told this last winter, Ritterbusch sells his actions by themselves too. Although the usual rifles he makes are undoubtably works of art to be had for about 9000,- Euro and up (yet made to be used if you don't mind scratching amazing wood!), he also told me that he was willing to produce a more "basic" rifle on request for less than half. I got the impression that the main cost was all the man-hours for making a stock by hand. So if you can skip this, you might be able to make a deal. BTW, he was a very nice guy to talk with. ErikD, Thanks also for the link. I am left handed and am looking for a left hand CRF Mauser. I looked up the link. The rifles are very pretty. I sent them a message, asking about availability and cost of left hand actions. As there was no mention of seperately available actions, nor the typical cost of one of their rifles, I am assuming: 1) only complete rifles are available and; 2) they are expensive! I had hoped to team an action, a quality barrel with an Acra-bond / Serengetti Grade A walnut laminate stock. My tastes run to a rifle I can use in the field, rather than a display piece.
