I am anxiously waiting for delivery of a Ruger M77 Mark II bolt action .458 Lott. I haven�t been able to find anyone selling bore guides for this gun, or any other .458 for that matter. Anyone got any suggestions where I can get one?

You know what, I haven't had to worry about bore guides for a while. I have been using a bore snake for all my toys unless I've screwed up somewhere and allowed the bore to get crudded up with metal fouling. The snake is the next best thing since sliced bread and beer in pop tops.

Thanks 475 Guy. I've never tried a bore snake. I just added a couple to my Midway order. Is anyone using a bore guide for their .458?

I couldn't find one for my Lott either. I've temporarily bought a piece of 1/2 inch copper tubing. Haven't used it, yet. I know it'll be fun using Sweets with it!!

My buddy is waiting for his Lott to arrive. He's got a lathe and is going to make a couple custom ones.

Don't know about a Ruger, but for other bolt actions I've driven primer and battery cup out of a 20 gauge shot shell and used it for a cleaning rod guide. Doesn't keep anything out of the action, but it centers the rod and presumably keeps it from rubbing what it shouldn't.

Thanks for the replies. I still haven�t found a commercially manufactured bore guide for the .458, and the guys at Sinclair said they couldn�t make a custom guide for it. I did get a couple of bore snakes from Midway. I�ll give them a try when I get the gun. Anyone else got any other ideas?

I've had the same problem locating a Bore Guide, but I may have solved the problem. Try this out. This is what I use.

Take an MTM bore guide. Remove the plastic, yellow, bushing at the end you insert jag/brush into. Trim/cut end off that is inserted into the chamber, enough that it will accommodate a .458 brush, it's tapered.

That's it. Works for me. Give it a try.

My gunsmtih makes them for me. They are made from an old stainless barrel which is turned to fit the action. The aprt that goes in the camber is do and then he put on a acid resistant plastic to protect the camber. The fit is perfect
