Was looking on Gun Broker a few minutes ago and noticed a seller that had Federal Premium Cape Shock in 404 Jeffery. The ammo box in the pic had a label stuck to it that said "Factory Second - Discontinued Load"
I did not know that Federal ever loaded for the 404J, but found that interesting.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Federal did in fact make some 404 Ammo. Joe Coogan and I carried some to Tanzania a number of years ago. However it did not ever see the commercial light of day and died on the vine due I believe to a fairly broad head space Datum line difference in the Saami & CIP drawings . I am fairly sure they used 400gr Woodleighs for the loads they developed.
