As always I just have to try something different... know the feeling? In this case I have some Speer 235 gr softs, and some 240 gr Trophy Bonded softs, and some 250 gr Swifts... I am not looking to shoot them at maximum velocity, but would like some punch with accuracy. Suggestions?????? roflmao

I use 72 gr of AR2208 (Varget) behind the speer 235 gr soft, shoots well in my rifle and would only be doing around 2600 fps which is about 300 fps off full speed.

This is fine in my gun but start a little lower for yours.

I chronographed some 200gr .375 H&H loads yesterday.

65gr of IMR3031 w/200gr speers netted about 2825fps.

They were accurate and well below the max vel.

Thanks new guy... I shot some 235's with 60/3031/F210's today and wasn't thrilled about the accuracy, but they were a bunch easier on the shoulder than the full ouse 300's I fired for nostalgia. beer

I have killed deer with the 220 Hornady FN and the 235 Speer with 60 grains of IMR 3031.
I have also taken deer with the 235 Speer and 64 grains of IMR 3031. 64 grains shoots much better with the Speer bullet. That load shoots good on paper at 200 yards as well.

I've been using Speer 235's with 75 grns of BLC2..decent accuracy and very tolerable on the bench and offhand.

Gentlemen, thank you for the advice and I do believe I will be upping the charge of 3031 and I put a S&B 1.5 x6 on the darling last evening. It seems that iron sights have become a thing of the past for me. That is a loss...

308Sako,

I use 76.0 gr RL15 with the 235 Speer which yields
2,934 fps and extraordinary groups ... some less than bullet diameter at 100 yards. Recoil is not as nice as 80.0 Gr IMR 4350 which pushes the 235 at 2,612 fps, but it is much more accurate.

I use H4895 behind the 235gr Speers loaded to 2750fps for deer. Very accurate, sorry I don't recall the charge but it came out one of the manuals so you should be able to dup.
Good Luck!

Gentlemen, once again thank you. I am hoping to keep the velocity down somewhat. Also the recoil if possible. If not, then might as well push them out AFAP as fast as possible!

I used to carry 235 grain XLC (Blue coated) Barnes X bullets for years as my backup load for guiding for wild boar. It was a great load and fully penetrated many, many wounded pigs end to end with great results.

I don't recall the powder charge but if I had to guess it was a recommended amount of IMR 4064.

Best of luck,
Kyler
