Can any of you guys please find me some loads that you know shoot well from a .500 NE Merkel. I just tradrd for one and need a few starting loads.-Rob

Great pickup.
Number one on my impulse to buy list is a .500 NE Merkel to backup my .470 Merkel.

You will get a ballpark load from the gents, but will have to fine tune it.

Many like H4350 in their .500 NE doubles.

I would just start at 100 grains of H4350 Extreme, with the 570 grain bullets, and fine tune from there.

What say the rest?

searcys load is 109 grains to 110 grains of imr 4831 with a fed 215 mag primer and 570 grain wooliegh.

I haven't worked up loads for my .500 Merkel yet, but I can tell you that the rounds I first got from Superior Ammo worked very well in it.

I believe there was a discussion on reloading the .500 Merkel on NitroExpress sometime ago.

Well, I just shot the new Merkel with some superior ammo that came with it and I'm pretty pleased. At 50 yrds it kept all rounds offhand in a 2 inch group rights and lefts(10 shots). Recoil is stout, substantially above the .470NE. and in fact about the same as my std .600OK hunting load. I think I'm gonna like this gun!-Rob

That is good.
Can you pull a bullet and see if they are using any filler, and what the charge weight of the powder is? That would just about nail it down, besides the appearance of the powder granules leading to possible ID help.
