Trying to find the overall length of a factory 416 remington magnum loaded with a 400 grain bullet. Such as a safari grade A frame or solid. I loaded a dummy round to maximum length sammi standards but they seem a little long for my pre 64 magazine box.

My factory cartridges loaded with Barnes solids measure 3.572" - 3.575". The A-Frame loaded cartridges measure 3.558" - 3.566". If you trim your case to minimum specs and load the A-Frames deep enough that the case bumps up against the forward edge of the cannelure you should be able to shorten the OAL to 3.550". lawndart

Thanks for the information. I intend to measure my chamber with a friends stony point oal gauge as soon as I get my cartridge case from midway.

If you need to trim your case length back below book minimum to get every thing to fit it won't hurt anything. You could mill a bit off the bottom of your Lee factory crimp die, or just send some dummy cases in for them to make a custom unit. Even then it will only set you back about $15.00. The Winchesters tend to have tight boxes. Remember when we were teenagers and our girlfriends did too? lawndart
