Just got back from a drive to Alaska, and stopped in Anchorage at GNG. I heard they had one some
nice rifles there. Unfortunately the sold the last of 5 of those 505 Gibbs, and don't plan to build
anymore. They had a Daniel Frasier 505, but that was a little too expensive. Looks like I will have
to stick with having one built eventually. They did have a Heym in 600NE too. Anybody know how
they fit that in a mauser bolt action? I'm amazed, especially w/ the $6,000 tag.
Anyways, just wish we had more places that carried big bores in the lower 48.

Too bad you missed out on the 505, but it had been on the rack for quite awhile. They do have a pretty interesting selection there. I was just in there the other day, and found an M70 416 win mag on the bargain rack for $895.

You should have dropped a line, and we could have met for a range session.

Yeah, I missed the boat on that. Now that I think about it I did see that winchester there too. Next time I'm up there I will get in touch. I'd love to go back again, if it's by plane.

GNG is one of my favourite places in Anchorage. Last time I was in there, they had a cased original 280 Ross sporter for about $900 US, which is a bargain. Great store. - Dan

I just love it, my gunsmith had that .600 Nitro Heym Bolt gun. I fiddled with it a little at his shop. Dam thing is way to heavy for me to carry. Other than that It was very nice. I could have owned it for around $ 5,000.00. They sell new for some 13 or 15 k. That is if Heym even makes them anymore or if they still bring them into the US. My guess is that it will collect dust at GNG. But GNG is one of the better candy stores around.

Heym still make the .600 Nitro bolt gun - they used to make a .500 3" Nitro as well, but that has been discontinued. Another manufacturer that makes big bore bolt guns is Joseph Hambrusch and they chamber all the way upto .700 Nitro.
Good Shooting!

Curtis,
Here's some candy for ya; I was in GNG with the wife and we were browsing towards the left side of the loooong counter. I saw a little rifle with nice sexy lines and asked to handle it. While the salesman is chatting up the wife I fondled this rig and much to my surprise on the barrel was engraved, J. Rigby (address) .275 Rigby.

They were asking $1,750.00 for the rifle and it was in choice condition. I looked long and hard at the missus and felt the "if you really need that go ahead" message. I should have gone ahead but didn't. That was one of the more foolish mistakes I have made.

They have some good stuff, just gotta look. [Smile]

They had a couple of 16ga/9.3X74R doubles in there a couple months back, that I longed for, but of course was short on cash.

I stopped in there a couple years ago on my way back from a hunt and found a mint pre 64 fwt in of all calibers 243. As I was short of cash I put it on Visa & the salesman said he would have to charge me something like 3% for the charge card. I said he would have to throw in the shipping as I live in Michigan. His reply was "Thats part of the United States take it with you". So I did. Wish I had an extra $1750 for that Rigby.

GNC is a weekly trip for me. It is not the cheapest in Alaska, but they have the greatest selection of Big Bores you will find.

I'd sure like to have that Rigby, but then I'm stuck on obsolete calibers that couldn't possibly still kill today's game. [Razz]
