Hey, nice vocab. eidetic. δὐνασαι ἰδεῖν τι ἐν τῷ νοΐ. able to see something in the mind. On rifles, the guide gun is great but a little pricey these days (c. $1000). Gunbroker may have some of the 416Ruger Alaskans @$850. CDNN liquidators only has 375Rugers for the special $699. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

Yesterday a friend offered me his 4 wheeler at a good deal so there goes my new rifle $$$ for a while. Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

CF have you tried R 17...I have worked up from 70 gns to 82 gns of R17 in the Satterlee 416 ruger and the 82 gn load gave me 2400 with a 400 gn Woodleigh ...... have not tested it for accuracy yet but it will get done this week, the rifle has a 22 inch obermyer barrel with a 1:12 twist

I have a jug of it I was trying in my Creedmoor. It gives very good velocity with 130 gr Sirocco's and the accuracy is good. But I haven't tried it in any Ruger cases. The Guide Gun is set up for the kind of hunting I have always done and it has some things that will help precision longer range shooting and some things that hurt it. But for 1k$ its pretty good. I've had 3 375 Ruger Alaskans and they were good basic rifles but the Guide Gun is a fair bit better. It doesn't need to be restocked tho I may put a laminate prone thumbhole stock on it to wring out its long range.potential. Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action.
