If you handload you can also load 320 gr woodleigh's which some here say penetrate large game verw well. It is a great cartridge and I would have to say it has a little more poke than the .35 whelen.

Treat yourself

It is not on the 30-06 case..It is on its own case...One can make 9.3x62 cases from the 06 case but will lose about 4% or more case capacity as I recall...the comma or period in the 9.3 is only a typo....I loose a little more than a 100 FPS with 06 brass so I quit using it.

Handloaded, it performs with the 375 H&H...Most factory loads with the exception of one compete with the 35 Whelen...I don't recall which factory load that is but its a hot one...

I handload a 320 gr. Woodleigh to 2450 FPS, but in a 26 inch barrel and that is equal to a 375 that shoots a 300 gr. bullet at 2500 FPS...at least for all practical purposes. I also shoot a 232 gr. GS Custom H.P. at a full blown 2800 plus a little and its a mild load..The 286 Nosler at 2521 FPS...so its quite the load with a good .366 cross section...actually I suspect the 35 Whelen would crank up pretty well in a 26" barrel also but I have not tried it...but it and its improved version will still lag behind the 9.3 by a bit..the 9.3x64 will give you another 150 to 200 FPS and easily equals the .375 H&H...

I like the 9.3x62, its mild of recoil and our hunters who use it shoot it well and they kill Buffalo very neatly with that caliber. I have shot more than a few Buff with it and I like it for the black bulls..I believe it is as good as the 375, but given a choice I'd probably still take a .375 for whatever reason...

Its just a nice caliber and you will never hear a bad word on it from those that have actually used it. It should be a perfect Brown Bear rifle IMO...

Actually, the 9,3X62 was released a year before the 30-06 and the design is closer to a 35 Whelen /Ackley Improved.

I like mine a whole bunch.
