LOOKING for an action that I can build a .505 Gibbs on.

Any suggestions?

even an appropriate single shot would do.

AND

If you do know of an action that would work, where do you get them?

thanks

enfield p17...

BUT, please let me talk you into a 500 asquare or 510 wells... it's FAR easier to feed and to get brass. $2 bucks for weatherby brass, retail, vs 4.. and everyone has weatherby.

both the gibbs HUGE and jeffery rebated are harder to get to feed

Jeffe:

I can't for the life of me figure out what you are talking about. I didn't have a bit of trouble getting my 505 to feed.

I just sent it down to Jim Wisner and it came back feeding slicker than hot snot on a cold door knob. HEHE

Great looking rifle Roger. I assume it started life as a ZKK602. Is it engraved too?

If the threads about CZ come to pass, you will probably be able to buy a factory 505 from them in less time and for much less money than building your own. You might want to let that rumour mature a little. If you want one that feeds and aren't in a hurry, talk to Montana Rifle Company about the PH action. They are getting real close to the minimum units to begin production and you can order it ready to go for the 505, $525.00. It will probably take at least a year to see it, though. If you can't wait CZ 550 Safari actions start at $500 to $550 and the sky's the limit after that.

And for whatever reason the gun gods decide, my CZ 550 feeds the 505 with almost no modifications (opened the rear of the ejection port and modified the bolt face). The standard magazine box works, too but it costs me one round down, I think.

Fla3006:

It is a 602 and it isn't engraved.................YET!

Jeffe: Jim is darn good at what he does. But, he's been at it since before he started growing chin wiskers.

That's really nice. I like Jim's treatment of the ejection port a little better than I did mine. It really makes for a nice line with the stock.

I had one built by Sterling Davenport on a Magnum single square bridge Mauser action. The drop box magazine by Blackburn and a Kreiger barrel. One standing sight and stocked in very proper English walnut in a classic style. Kicked the hell out of me.

Paul Nothnagle of South Africa built mine about 4 years ago. It may have been a first, on a CZ-550 action, can't know. Grade 5 Turkish, Truvelo barrel, Masterpiece sighting. Shoots 570 X and 600 Super Solids to the same group @ 100.

Don't forget, I think Hamilton Bowen is building them too? If I recall, you send him your big Ruger and $1200 or so, and shazam, back comes a .505 Gibbs that works? Look at his website.

Nick, that is a beautiful rifle. I now covet it. The stick is super-duper grade and I just love the way the grain just shines through the finish or is it the lights. Is that checkering on top of your quarter rib? Can't tell for sure from the pic. Over-all, that is quality workmanship. That buff ain't too bad either.

I have one on a CZ550 action--new bolt handle and shroud removed--and Pac-Nor barrel, with a drop mag, in a Claro stock.

475 Guy - No, it's not the lights. The tiger stripes show on the other side too. It's available if you're really interested.

All work done by Paul Nothnagle and staff in Kroonstad, RSA.
I'd recommend Paul to anyone interested in a fine DGR.
