Guys, Developed a 500 gr cast GCFP load for the 470 NE. Very repeatable 1500 fps 10 feet from the muzzle. Delivers good accuracy. Like this at 100 yards with open sights: Think this is good enough for the purpose?

Looks good to me. | |||

The only problem is it isn't in the right spot and Kentucky windage is a recipe for disaster when hunting...and surely you won't reset your sights...

Ray, Hmmmm ... let's see .... slightly over an 1" low and 2 1/2" left at 100 yards. I suspect it's within minute of deer and certainly within minute of elk. At 50 yards it is 1" high and centered. I think I'll leave it there.

The photo looked 4 inches left and 3 inches low to me...sorry, but if its at center and high at 50 it should be about the same at 100 or is this a cast bullet thing!

mstarling No doubt that cast bullet will kill a deer, but I can't help but think that a Hawk 350gr bullet with the .025jkt would kill a bit quicker. Just start with the same powder charge that regulates with 500grain bullets, or try @ 70 to 75gr. of IMR 3031, with filler of course.

But Mike has too much fun casting bullets and tweaking loads and he has plenty of time to do it since Ms. MStarling won't let him back in the house after buying the double rifle (just kiddin' she's actually a dear and patient lady) Is that a round from each barrel? I just wish I could get the cast bullets for the .405 to hit the paper nose first!

Rick, Yes, it's a round from each barrel. Bull is 2" in diameter. The windage thing is probably something about not being able to see that far way! At least I was consistently picking a lousy place to aim at 100 yards. I suspect this Searcy shoots better than I can see. My eyesight sure isn't what it once was. I haven't been able to get Hawks to regulate properly yet.
