The local Sportsman's Warehouse opened its doors for the first time today, and I had to go look. I was hoping they had a Ruger Hawkeye African in stock, but nope. They did have a CZ 550 American Safari in .458, though. I have handled a number of the CZ big bores, and many of them feel club-like indeed, but this .458 Win Mag seemed very nicely balanced, and couldn't have been much beyond 9 pounds. It pointed and handled very well for me. Is this fairly true of the CZ in .458 and perhaps .416? I agree the .375s handle like green-chain 2 x 6's. I like my .416 Rigby CZ550 Safari Mag. Is a little on the heavy side but handles and shoots well. Have taken Gemsbock, Hartebeast, Cape Buffalo, and Bison with it. Don't notice recoil when there is game under the cross hairs Like other retired folks I too am not made of money. Have been playing with Mausers with the help of a gunsmith friend. Just got am FN Mauser in .416 Aagaard to feed dummy rounds well. Slick as a whistle. Completely different that the CZs, but I like it too. This little fella weighs 8 pounds with a Leupold 1.5-5 IR scope and is really handy! Tomorrow we see how it groups. Ditto on the newfound admiration for the CZ 550 Mag. I disliked my first 416 and sent it back. Now I've got a Fancy Wood CZ 416 and it's much more nicely put together and finished out, VERY nice stock, excellent shooter. Out little 9.3 Full stock is a very trick little tack driver. Appears CZ USA is really trying to get the factory to follow thru on buyers feedback, positive and negative. As factory guns go these CZs need fewer mods and teaks than a M70 Express. Never thought I see them running neck and neck as the best base factory DG rifle. | |||
