I haven't tried the 300 grain anythings in my .416. I having outstanding luck with the 350 gr TSX though. My handload will shoot 5 shots into .57" at 100. And the 400 BBsolids shoot just as well and to the same point of aim.

I use 300 gn TSX for game below buffalo in my 416 Rigby, but I have only shot a few pigs and a few wild dogs with it so far. I use 109gn AR2209 (equiv to H4350), Norma cases, Federal 215 primers, and the bullet has 0.250" jump to the lands. I get 2920fps. Please if you want to use that load, work up slowly from about 100gn or even a bit lower. That load shoots reaonably flat out ot 250m, and is devastating on the size of game I have taken so far. It goes right through pigs from any angle, but it will also open up a dogs chest from a side on shot, and make a huge exit wound, showing that the bullet expands quite quickly. I am currently experimenting with Reloader 17. I have a load for the 350gn TTSX, which does 2800fps, (I can only get 2740fps with AR2209 and that bullet). I haven't got to the point of a suitable load for the 300gn bullet with Reloader 17 yet, but I think I will be able to get around 3000fps. I will post the reults when I have finished experimenting.

+1 on 338's comments on the 350 TTSX with Rel 17. The BC on the 350 grain TTSX is so much higher that it overtakes the 300 grain TSX at long range. Since the main purpose of a fast, flat 300 grain TSX is long range, then the 350 TTSX becomes the bullet of choice. It has more momentum, more potential lengthwise penetration, and it will do long range BETTER than the 300 grainer. The 300 TSX with 3000fps muzzle velocity, 2" sight-in at 100 yards drops -21.4 at 400 yards with only 2448 ftlbs, and -45.6" at 500 yards with 1905ftlbs. The 350 TTSX with 2800 fps muzzle velocity, 2" sight-in at 100 yards, drops -21.7 at 400 yards with 3343 ftlbs, and -44.2" at 500 yards with 2840ftlbs. The 350 TTSX is your bullet for the moment. In a couple of months you can get a CEB-Tipped Raptor with the best terminals available, light and fast, with a decent BC +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

Those trajectory comparisons tell the story, but it might be a different ending if they come out with a more efficient tipped 300gn bullet. I have been too busy with work to finish the testing I started, but hopefully I will have some loads finalised this month!

Yes, if Barnes had done a .416 300 TTSX that would be a great plains game bullet. But the 350TTSX is great. And the CEB-Tipped is going to shut down both of them. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

300gr X bullet and RE15, muzzle velocity is just under 2700fps from my .416 Ruger Alaskan, used for elk and moose. Same bullet and powder in my .416 Remington magnum at about 200fps faster.

Individual rifles and barrel lengths can change figures dramatically, but the +3 grain case capacity of the 416 Remmie is only worth about 30-45fps over the 416 Ruger. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

Interesting. Haven't tried loading my .416 Ruger to the max. I would guess with its 20" barrel, it should do around 2800 fps with the 300 gr bullet.
